Looking more handsome with every passing year, the R107-Series Mercedes SL was built at a time when the Stuttgart firm still had a reputation for building cars that made granite feel flimsy

The cars were offered with a wide range of power units using both straight-six and V8 engines, but one of the best was the 450 SL powered by the 4,520cc M117 V8 which developed 225bhp and 278lb/ft of torque

First registered in 1975 and in our vendor's ownership since 2011, benefiting from considerable expenditure on maintenance and mechanical improvements during this period

Finished in Astral Silver with a dark blue leather interior and a soft top, which is understood to have been replaced approximately six years ago. The bodywork would benefit from some cosmetic attention

Accompanied by a factory hardtop and an extensive collection of invoices from Mercedes-Benz specialists T&M Motors, documenting servicing, timing chain work, suspension repairs and attention to the chassis

Particularly noteworthy is an invoice dated April 2024 totalling £15,553 for a substantial engine and gearbox overhaul, including new pistons and rings, bearings, valves, timing components and associated engineering work

Further invoices document ongoing servicing and mechanical attention, with the accompanying paperwork recording expenditure exceeding £21,000 between 2014 and 2024
