Description
Firmly established in Ferrari’s history as one of its finest modern-era grand touring cars, the 550 Maranello marked the welcome return to a front-engined V12 configuration for the marque’s flagship two-seater, following more than two decades of mid-engined flat-12 models. Named after Maranello, the Italian town that has been home to Ferrari’s factory since 1943, the 550 combined elegant Pininfarina styling with a naturally aspirated 5.5-litre, 48-valve V12 developing 485bhp at 7,000rpm. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-mounted transaxle, the powertrain provided excellent weight distribution and a more progressive power delivery, making the 550 every bit as rewarding on a twisting road as it was across long distances. Capable of approaching 200mph, it offered genuine supercar performance without sacrificing the refinement expected of a grand tourer. Production ran from 1996 to 2001, with just 3,083 coupés built, of which only 457 were right-hand drive, adding a welcome degree of rarity to what was already a very special Ferrari.
Offered here at the 2026 NEC Classic Motor Show is a rare, UK-supplied, right-hand-drive Ferrari 550 Maranello, finished in Nero Daytona with Crema leather piped in black and black carpets, a stunning combination. Supplied new by Glenvargill, Glasgow, to a prominent local business owner, it was first registered in January 1999. Its specification included a black leather dash top, electrically adjustable ‘Daytona’ seats and matching black brake calipers.
Today, this fine example presents beautifully and has evidently been well cared for over the years by its four owners. According to the speedometer at the time of cataloguing, it had covered just under 32,000 miles, supported by a comprehensive maintenance record and regular MOT test certificates. It is offered with its original book pack, including the service book, stamped mostly by Ferrari main agents with the occasional specialist and Ferrari tool kit. Recent maintenance was completed at Dick Lovett Ferrari Swindon in November 2025, including replacement fuel pumps and a brake fluid change, at a cost of just under £9,000. The history file also contains a host of invoices supporting the service book stamps, along with MOT certificates, the most recent of which is valid until August 2027. Our vendor describes the Ferrari as running and driving beautifully and will endeavour to present it to the auction professionally detailed.
In summary, this is a good opportunity to secure a smart, UK-supplied 550 Maranello, well-presented and finished in arguably one of the model’s best colour combinations. Rapidly increasing in popularity, the 550 Maranello occupies a unique sweet spot in Ferrari production, bringing together the old-world Ferrari concept and relatively modern engineering without the layers of electronics that can dilute the analogue driving experience. Quite simply, it is a must-have model for any serious Ferrari collector or enthusiast.
