⭕ VEHICLE SUMMARY

A remarkably well-preserved example of the acclaimed E39-generation BMW 5 Series, combining one of BMW’s characteristically smooth straight-six engines with the added involvement of a manual gearbox.

Introduced in 1995, the E39 represented the fourth generation of the 5 Series. Its elegant proportions were accompanied by a significantly stiffer body and extensive use of lightweight aluminium within the suspension, helping the car achieve the balance of comfort, refinement and handling for which it remains highly regarded.

The 523i occupied the middle ground of the six-cylinder range. Despite its name, it was powered by a 2,494cc naturally aspirated straight-six producing a factory-quoted 170BHP. Later examples received the technically updated M52TU engine with double-VANOS variable camshaft control, intended to provide smooth and flexible power delivery throughout the rev range.

Registered in 2000, this example comes from the final phase of 523i production and retains the clean appearance of the original, pre-facelift E39. It is finished in metallic silver with a black leather interior, figured wood trim and a factory sunroof.

Particularly appealing is its five-speed manual gearbox, which gives the driver considerably more involvement than the more commonly encountered automatic transmission. The car also benefits from factory-specified M Sport equipment, including sports seats and an M steering wheel, together with Style 68 alloy wheels and a discreet boot-lid spoiler. It comes with a fresh MOT valid until the 05/10/2027.
