Description

Ferrari F355 Berlinetta

A particularly desirable, UK-supplied right-hand-drive Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, first registered in April 1995 and benefiting from just two registered keepers from new. Remarkably, the current owner has cherished the car for the past28 years, having acquired it in 1998.

Showing just over41,000 miles, this is an exceptionally well-maintained example, presented in the iconic Rosso Corsa over Nero leather combination. More importantly, it boasts the highly sought-after early Bosch Motronic 2.7 engine management system, original three-spoke Momo steering wheel and six-speed gated manual gearbox.

Combining an outstanding ownership history, desirable early specification and comprehensive maintenance record, this is a particularly special example of Ferrari’s iconic analogue-era V8.

EXTERIOR

The car presents beautifully in its original Rosso Corsa colour.

In 2021, the front end received a professional respray solely to address minor stone chipping that had begun to detract from the overall presentation. Following the work, the entire front end was protected with paint protection film.

The only modification to the car is a stainless-steel exhaust system, which has been particularly well received at Ferrari Owners’ Club meetings. The original OEM exhaust is also included in the sale, allowing the car to be returned to factory specification if desired.

The original magnesium wheels are unmarked and were previously professionally refurbished by a Ferrari main dealer. They are fitted with a matching set of Continental SportContact tyres, all in excellent condition, with at least 5mm of tread remaining on the fronts and 4mm on the rears. There is no damage or perishing.

The brakes are in excellent condition all round, with no obvious signs of wear and plenty of pad life remaining.

The car has always been carefully stored and protected, spending the majority of its garaged life beneath its bespoke fitted Ferrari-logo indoor car cover, manufactured by Specialist Car Covers. This is included with the vehicle.

Most recently, the paintwork benefited from a full two-stage machine paint correction this summer, leaving the exterior in outstanding condition and ready for its next custodian.

INTERIOR

The cabin is trimmed in the less commonly specified Nero (black) leather, providing a wonderfully understated and timeless contrast to the Rosso Corsa exterior.

The extensive leather upholstery has been exceptionally well preserved, benefiting from periodic applications of leather balm throughout its life. It displays remarkably little wear for a car of its age.

Complementing the black leather is the factory-optioned Rosso red carpeting. In the flesh, this is a particularly striking, vibrant scarlet, closely complementing the exterior paintwork. The red carpeting extends throughout the footwells, lower sills and rear bulkhead, creating a distinctive and purposeful contrast against the Nero interior.

One of the most common age-related issues affecting the F355 interior is the deterioration of its soft-touch, so-called ‘sticky’ finishes. This has been comprehensively addressed this year, with all affected interior panels, switches, controls and vents professionally restored and their original logos reapplied.

The centrepiece of the iconic gated manual gearshift has also been polished, completing an interior that presents exceptionally well.

The air conditioning is fully operational, with the A/C ECU replaced in 2024. A period-correct, late-1990s Alpine CD player is also fitted, complementing the car’s original-era character.

Included is the complete original Schedoni leather tool case, with its full complement of tools and tyre inflation kit.

Discreet CTEK battery conditioner connection leads have also been fitted behind the access panel adjacent to the battery isolation switch, allowing convenient maintenance charging without disturbing the car’s presentation.

SERVICE HISTORY & MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE

The car benefits from an extensive and well-documented service history, having been maintained throughout its life by Ferrari main dealers and established independent Ferrari specialists.

The original owner correctly undertook the all-important running-in service at approximately 1,300 miles, followed by a further service at 5,500 miles, both at Ferrari main dealer Reg Vardy.

Following its purchase by the current owner in 1998, at approximately 8,000 miles, the car was returned to the local Ferrari main dealer within the first month of ownership for a comprehensive cambelt service.

It subsequently continued to receive annual servicing at the Ferrari dealership, with a further four services completed there through to the end of 2003, including another cambelt service in 2002.

As the factory-trained F355 technicians subsequently left the dealership, maintenance was transferred to established independent Ferrari specialists. Since then, the car has continued to receive specialist attention, with a further four documented cambelt changes.

Most recently, the car received a comprehensive cambelt service in April 2026.

This latest work went beyond routine servicing and included:

●Replacement of the cambelts.

●Renewal of all other ancillary belts.

●New battery.

●Brake fluid service and replacement of the bleed nipples.

●Suspension cleaning and protective waxing.

●Renewal of any corroded undertray fixings and associated hardware.

A comprehensive vehicle health check was also carried out, with the report available for inspection by prospective purchasers.

Other significant maintenance includes:

●New radiators fitted in 2019.

●Clutch replacement in 2020 at approximately 37,000 miles.

●Previously repaired exhaust manifolds.

●Both catalytic converters replaced.

The result is a car that has been maintained with considerable care and attention, with the major servicing requirements and age-related maintenance given the attention they deserve.

All original factory manuals and service books are present in the original Ferrari leather wallet. Both sets of keys are included, each with its corresponding immobiliser chip.

SPECIFICATION, RARITY & COLLECTABILITY

The F355 occupies a particularly special place in Ferrari’s history. Widely regarded as one of the finest analogue-era Ferraris, it was the last V8 model to feature the iconic pop-up headlights.

With its naturally aspirated V8 mounted directly behind the driver, six-speed gated manual gearbox and unmistakable exhaust note, the F355 delivers an involvement and character that has become increasingly difficult to replicate in modern supercars.

Yet it also benefits from sufficiently modern engineering, including ABS braking and a limited-slip differential, making it a wonderfully engaging and rewarding car to drive.

This particular example combines several highly desirable features that make it especially interesting to collectors.

The early Bosch Motronic 2.7

This is an early-production Bosch Motronic 2.7 car, a specification particularly sought after by F355 enthusiasts.

The 2.7 system features a twin-engine-management arrangement, with separate ECUs, mass airflow sensors and airboxes serving each cylinder bank. This differs from the later 5.2 Motronic system, which consolidated engine management into a single ECU.

The early cars are also distinguished by their original analogue-era character and are particularly prized by enthusiasts seeking the earliest F355 specification.

The original three-spoke Momo steering wheel

This car retains the highly desirable original three-spoke Momo steering wheel, fitted to the early pre-airbag cars.

Its slim rim and understated design complement the F355’s beautifully simple interior and are an important part of the car’s original aesthetic.

Later cars received a four-spoke airbag steering wheel, making the original three-spoke arrangement a particularly attractive feature for collectors.

The Berlinetta – the purist’s choice

Of the three F355 body styles, the Berlinetta remains a particularly compelling choice.

Its fixed-roof construction provides excellent chassis rigidity, while its clean Pininfarina lines arguably represent the purest interpretation of the original F355 design.

Combined with the gated manual gearbox and early 2.7 specification, it offers a particularly appealing driver’s configuration.

A particularly rare combination

This is a UK-supplied, right-hand-drive, six-speed manual Berlinetta, finished in Rosso Corsa over Nero leather, with the early Bosch 2.7 Motronic system and original three-spoke Momo steering wheel.

Of the 496 UK-supplied manual Berlinettas understood to have been delivered, registry and enthusiast records suggest that only approximately 150–170 were equipped with the early 2.7 Motronic system.

Within this group, estimates suggest approximately 100–110 examples were delivered in the desirable pre-airbag configuration.

The combination of early 2.7 specification, manual gearbox, pre-airbag Momo steering wheel and Berlinetta body style therefore places this car within a particularly desirable group of early F355s.

Further enthusiast registry estimates suggest that only approximately 30–40 of these pre-airbag 2.7 manual Berlinettas were originally delivered in Rosso Corsa with Nero leather.

While these figures are estimates rather than official Ferrari production records, they illustrate just how distinctive this particular specification is.

The Rosso Corsa and Nero combination is especially appealing. The black leather provides a timeless, understated cabin, while the vibrant Rosso carpeting introduces a striking splash of colour that ties the interior to the exterior beautifully.

For enthusiasts seeking an early, unfiltered F355 in a particularly attractive specification, this example ticks an exceptional number of boxes.
