EXTERIOR

Dakar Yellow made its name on the E36 M3, but it feels equally at home across the wider, more sculpted shape of the E92. The warm solid colour draws attention to the power-domed bonnet, strong shoulder line and swollen rear arches, giving the Coupé a character quite unlike the darker examples more commonly seen.

The Edition’s darker detailing provides a well-judged contrast, with dark-finished kidney grilles and side gills joined by black bonnet vents, mirror caps, the exposed carbon-fibre roof and High-Gloss Shadowline trim. Body-coloured mirror supports are a small factory detail easily missed, while the black multi-spoke alloy wheels sit neatly within the arches and carry the contrast through to the car’s stance.

The bodywork presents to a high standard, with a bright, even finish across straight and well-aligned panels. A strong gloss shows the E92’s lines clearly, while the clean light units and well-kept exterior trim complete the presentation. Dakar Yellow is certainly a confident choice, but the detailing and condition make this M3 feel considered rather than excessive.

INTERIOR

BMW used Dakar Yellow sparingly inside, allowing it to pick out the details without overwhelming the cabin. Black Novillo leather features yellow stitching and slim matching inserts across the front and rear seat backrests, with further colour on the extending front seat squabs. Chequered-flag M3 sill plates provide a final Edition-specific touch.

Black Carbon-structure leather trim runs across the driver-focused dashboard and door panels, joined by M instruments, the seven-speed DCT selector and iDrive controls. It feels suitably focused, yet remains a comfortable and usable four-seat Coupé.

The cabin has worn its mileage well. The seat bolsters retain their shape with only light creasing, while the rear seats, steering wheel, switchgear, centre console and carpets all present neatly.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The S65 V8 is what gives the E92 M3 its identity. Displacing 3,999cc, it produces 420hp at 8,300rpm and revs to 8,400rpm, using eight individual throttle butterflies to deliver its response. Despite gaining two cylinders over the E46, the engine weighs 15kg less than the straight-six it replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through BMW’s seven-speed M DCT gearbox and variable M differential. Drivelogic allows the speed and character of each gear change to be adjusted, with automatic operation or manual control through the steering-wheel paddles. In this form, BMW quoted 0–62mph in 4.6 seconds.

The throttle actuators were replaced in 2019, addressing one of the recognised maintenance points associated with the S65. Regular servicing has followed, with the most recent service completed in October 2026.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Black multi-spoke alloy wheels provide a strong contrast against the Dakar Yellow bodywork, with their finer design leaving the cross-drilled brake discs clearly visible. The wheel faces present cleanly and sit neatly within the widened arches.

The Edition’s suspension sits 10mm lower than that of the standard E92 M3, giving the car a more settled stance without appearing exaggerated. M-specific suspension and compound brakes complete a chassis designed to make proper use of the V8’s performance.

HISTORY FILE

Supplied new by Preston Hall BMW on 1 April 2010, this M3 belongs to the limited six-month production run of E92 Coupé Edition models. Its BMW Individual Dakar Yellow finish, colour-coordinated interior and Edition-specific detailing distinguish it immediately from the standard M3.
