Overview

Vauxhall and Lotus made an unlikely double act, and the VX220 proved the pairing worked when it launched in 2000 at £22,809. Underneath sits a bonded, extruded aluminium chassis tub, with a 2.2-litre all-aluminium engine from the Astra SRi mounted behind the seats. There's just 870kg to haul, so it'll do 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds and run on to 135mph.

Lotus built 5,267 naturally aspirated VX220s before production ended in 2005. Many regard them as among the most involving cars ever to wear a Vauxhall badge, and it's easy to see why. Two seats, rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox is a recipe the B-road crowd has never tired of.

This 2003 car has covered just 16,571 miles, and it's been freshened exactly where a driver will notice. Its Nitron dampers were refurbished in May 2026, with a geometry set-up and four freshly fitted tyres at the same visit. A VX220 specialist renewed the radiator and fan in 2025. Its second keeper owned the car for approximately 21 years, and the current owner has spent almost £6,800 on specialist work since.

It looks the part, too, with corrected and ceramic-coated Calypso Red paint, refinished silver cabin trim and black leather that wears its years lightly. It's a vivid combination, and the black fabric soft-top presents neatly against all that red. Stow it on a sunny day and you'll get the full open-air experience the VX220 was built for. Anyone after a VX220 to enjoy on a good road will find a number of significant items have received recent specialist attention. Cars are, after all, for driving, and this one's exceptionally low-mileage and has benefited from significant recent specialist attention.

Summary

Low miles, vivid Calypso Red and significant recent specialist attention to the hardware that matters most to how a VX220 drives. The dampers, geometry, cooling and brakes have all had specialist attention, and the paint and cabin trim look the better for it.

As would be expected of a 23-year-old car, there are some minor age-related marks and signs of use. Prospective bidders are encouraged to review the extensive detailed photographs and to arrange a viewing or raise any questions about areas of particular interest before bidding.
