Few classic Volkswagens command the presence and admiration of the iconic 23-window bus. The ultimate specification also being very rare in right hand drive format.

Finished in a striking black-over-red colour scheme with a contrasting white roof, this bus has been owned and enjoyed by a local gentlemen and regular customer of ours for 20 years.

The bus has had a major restoration and has always been kept garaged. The body panels and paintwork are superb throughout as the bus was painted by an exceptionally good painter in recent years.

Complete with deluxe trim, Safari windows, louvre embellishments, round-style rear lights and the all-important sunroof, this is a particularly striking example of the classic Volkswagen era. The sunroof mechanism and original and rare Golde handle are present and in good working order, complemented by a recently replaced headliner and outer canvas. The dashboard features the correct-style German clock, and the underside belly pans are present and in body coloured paint.

The finishing touch is a brand-new set of Porsche Fuchs-style wheels and tyres, fitted in October 2026, which perfectly complement the buses distinctive appearance. The bus has also been fully serviced at this time.

An exceptional driving experience

The mechanical specification is where this bus really comes into its own. I can honestly say this is the best-driving example I have ever experienced – a superlative I have been saving for quite some time.

Thousands upon thousands of pounds have been invested in the mechanics alone, with the objective of creating a bus that retains its unmistakable vintage character while delivering a significantly improved driving experience.

The specification includes a fully reconditioned 1600cc engine running an external oil cooler and uprated rocker covers, Twin carburettors, adjustable spring plates, IRS conversionupgrade (Independent rear suspension) for vastly improved ride quality and taller gear ratios , Spax shock absorbers, adjustable narrowed front beam and a front disc brake conversion.

The suspension and ride quality are far superior to standard, providing a more composed, confidence-inspiring drive and making the bus considerably more usable for longer journeys and regular enjoyment.

This is not simply a classic Volkswagen to admire at a show; it is a bus that has been thoughtfully developed to be driven and enjoyed.

Spacious and sociable interior

The interior features two opposite-facing seats, comfortably accommodating six occupants, with the potential for a further three people, including the driver, to sit in the front. It offers the sociable, relaxed atmosphere that makes the Split Screen such an enduring classic, whether heading to a show, touring the countryside or embarking on a longer adventure.

The interior does also have a platform between the seats that can be made into a double bed so that the bus can be used as a camper van.

The bus has been fully serviced and will be supplied with a fresh MOT, despite being exempt from the statutory MOT testing requirement, for additional peace of mind. It is also exempt from UK vehicle road tax (Vehicle Excise Duty).
