MG ZT-T 260 V8
Extremely rare tourer version of this modern day classic car, number 415 of 883 MG ZT, ZT-T and Rover 75 V8’s build. This is one of around 126 MkII V8 Tourers, making it about 3 times rarer than the saloon. Mine is a non-SE car (most are SE spec) so rarer still, lighter and with a lot less to go wrong than the fully spec’d version! The car is completely standard and has been carefully owned and enjoyed from new and I’m only the second owner.
The ZT and ZT-T 260 (project X12 and X13) were largely developed by Motorsport and Engineering company ProDrive, and although look almost identical to the standard MG ZT’s, are completely different to drive.
If you’ve not heard a ZT260 then you’re probably wondering what all the fuss is about. Watch (or more importantly, listen) to the video I made by visiting youtube and pasting the following after com /watch?v=ggVIIfcFWhY
My car was built in 2004, and remained as unsold stock until 2011 when it was registered (on a 2004 plate) by its first owner. I purchased the car 2 years later at 19,000 miles and have enjoyed the odd weekend outing, one trip to the Lake District and two visits to Le Mans. The car has always performed faultlessly and been an absolute joy to drive. I’m very particular about warming the mechanicals up and not abusing the car, so careful gear changes, sympathetic acceleration in 1st (no clunky prop shaft) and gentle cornering have been practised throughout. The previous owner was a lovely likeminded chap.
The car’s been kept in a secure, dry garage from new and hooked up to a CTEK trickle charger when not in use. I’ve only used the MG between March – October, so no winter use and the bodywork / chassis is evidence of this.
You’ll find a layer of Waxoyl over exposed threads, under the car and I’ve kept the bodywork meticulously wax polished and clean. The interior is as new and I’m not even sure the rear seats have been sat in!
Last autumn I bought 4 new Continental Sport Contact M3 tyres (£600), which were the OEM specification. There are also 2 spare matching Apex wheels with usable tyres. The MOT is valid until April 3rd 2016 and it passed first time at the last test there were no advisories. I always stay and observe the MOT test and saw the underneath of the car while it was up in the air – looked spotless.
