Description
Here for sale is my 172 Cup, if you are looking at this car you will know why it is special and so I won't go into that. One thing I will say however is that these came with thinned glass to save weight and this car has all the original factory glass which is important with this modern classic.
I purchased the car from an ex Toyota mechanic who had gone into the alloy wheel refurbishment business. He had owned the car for two years and before him the owner had owned since 2003 and part-exchanged the car for a Golf R. Before that I believe it was a dealership demo for a few months so there are 3 previous owners.
Since purchasing I have been 'restoring' the car by replacing lots of parts and trim to make it mint. I buy and do up little hot hatches as a hobby, I don't drive them but enjoy owning them. I have a build thread on the cliosport forum if you wish to take a look at whats been done look up in the projects for 'I bought a 172 Cup'. Unfortunately it won't let me link to it here.
Newly refurbished cup turinis (full refurb not just faces)
New Kumho tyres put on and just balanced
New genuine cup suspension all round
New cooksport springs
New rear badges
New side badges
New genuine mats
New OEM exhaust
New plates
New gear knob insert
New foam panel filter
New rear number plate lamp
New slam panel rubber
New expansion tank
New 'old' original Cat
Refurbished steering wheel
Replaced various worn/damaged items of trim and fixings
Resprayed inlet, rail guard and throttle body
Once I had completed the cosmetic work above I had a health check carried out by a local specialist with a brief of do whatever needs doing to the car. The following was then done:
Full visual and road health inspection plus diagnostics check
Replaced gearbox oil
Replaced coolant
Replaced brake fluid
Corrected timing
Adjusted handbrake
Adjusted gear linkage
The only modification on the car is the cooksport springs which really improve the handling. Otherwise it was a brilliant car from the factory and I believe should be enjoyed as such.
The car will have 12months MOT and was serviced as follows:
2005 - 9732 miles
2007 - 17150 miles
2011 - 38379 miles
2013 - 47000 miles - Belts changed
2014 - 50671 miles
2016 - 62158 miles
2017 - 69631 miles - Belts changed
2017 - 70328 miles
2018 - 73400 miles - All bits mentioned from health check
I have a folder full of supporting paperwork for this and the original book pack plus of course two original keys.
I am only selling as spent the last 4 years trying to find a Petrol Blue 182 of which only 29 were built. I now have one of these and so this is the new project. The cup therefore has to make way. The car attracts a lot of attention and positive comments. The bodywork is in amazing condition with the only imperfections being two tiny door dings which you wouldn't find unless I showed you. One is on the drivers b pillar and the second is on the passenger c pillar. Other than this I can honestly say the car is mint and people often think I have had the whole car resprayed! I have therefore priced this car according to condition and the fact the new owner will have nothing to do but enjoy it and hopefully continue my work.
The car is located by Stansted Airport.
Thank you,
Chris
