1984 Ferrai 308 GTS Quattrovalvole RHD
Foskers are delighted to offer this superb Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole (QV) chassis number 53235 built in 1984 by Ferrari SpA Maranello, Italy. The opportunity to acquire a new 308 GTS QV has long passed, though you would hardly know it with this car.
Produced between 1975 and 1985 the 308 was the successor to the Dino and featured a 2.9 litre V8 mid mounted 240bhp engine with a 5 speed manual gearbox and 4 wheel disc brakes. Bodies were initially constructed in fibreglass but the switch was made to steel bodywork because the weight saving was minimal and build standards improved.
Ferrari attended the 1982 Paris Motor Show with the 308 GTS Quattrovalvole, which as its name suggests, featured four valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system. A few styling updates accompanied the engine-room modifications. Improved airflow came via a reworked front facia, while function and form came together with a new steering-wheel design and power-adjustable exterior mirrors. The QV model was offered in fixed roof GTB and targa-style GTS with a removable black vinyl roof section over the passenger compartment. Most customers at launch opted for the open GTS version. Production began in 1982 and ended in 1985, with around 3,800 examples of both bodies eventually leaving Maranello. Regarded today as an iconic design with coachwork by Pininfarina - the model is now recognised as a future classic.
This spectacular example comes from the last full year of production, a factory right hand drive QV car, UK supplied and registered 28/11/1984 by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. Documentation on file from archive records confirms the car was ordered from the factory specified as Argento (Silver) paint with red leather interior, air conditioning, alarm system and amplifier/speakers. The Maranello new car invoice supplied displays a tax free price of £26,453 GB pounds including options. The first owner was Mr Andrew James who after taking delivery exported the car to Perth Australia, it was registered there as 7AM 137. Three years later it was shipped back to the UK having covered 18,290 miles and subsequently sold to Mr W Paul of Woking who cherished the car until the end of the 1990s. In 2011 the owner at the time took the car to Switzerland where he was working and had to register the car there. He would bring it back to England for servicing and storage then in May 2013 decided to sell the car through Rardley Motors (Ferrari Specialists) and it was re registered in the UK.
The original service book displays the chassis number and supplying dealer Maranello with warranty card, delivery date 30/11/1984 and first 1,000 service completed 07/02/1985. There are multiple stamps in the book and a comprehensive history file of works carried out by Ferrari main agents and reputable specialists. Throughout its life time there is evidence of services and belt replacements completed at 5,395, 9,250, 15,500, 19,500, 20,862, 20,900, 24,087, 25,478, 27,657, 28,241, 28,903, 29,958, 30,252, 32,814, 38,624, 42,231, 42,997, 45,257 and 46,244 miles. Included within the file there are assorted invoices displaying the sale and ownership over the last four decades with numerous MOT certificates dating back to 1989.
Unlike many other 308s available today, as the photos show the bodywork is in wonderful condition with impressive shut lines/panel gaps and the Argento silver paint showcases the car's curves perfectly. All of the interior - seats, facia, dashboard, door cards are in very good condition with little or no sign of wear. Switchgear and electrical items work correctly without fault.
The V8 engine feels strong and revs freely throughout the range providing a thrilling drive with an enticing soundtrack, Of note is the engine bay that is in very clean order. The gated gear lever is a feature on this 308 model and it moves the selector through the gears shifting up and down easy. Out on the open road this 308 QV is a real pleasure to drive , its handling is exactly what you expect from a Ferrari 308 GTS QV nimble, precise and the exhaust note makes a truly great sound!
This Ferrari is offered with tool roll, complete set of of original books bound within the Ferrari wallet and 2 sets of keys. It will come with a fresh service, cam-belts renewed and MOT for the new owner to enjoy.
