1962 Ferrari

One of the most notable GT racers of its time, the 1959 250 GT Berlinetta SWB used a short (2,400 mm (94.5 in)) wheelbase for better handling. Of the 176 examples built, both steel and aluminium bodies were used in various road ("lusso") and racing trims. Engine output ranged from 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) to 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp).At the Paris Salon of 1959 Ferrari revealed to the public the new 250 GT Berlinetta, riding on its shorter wheelbase. The lightened chassis provided the perfect foundation for the bodywork. Development of the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta was handled by Giotto Bizzarrini, Carlo Chiti, and young Mauro Forghieri, the same team that later produced the 250 GTO. The combination of low weight, high power, and well-sorted suspension made it competitive. The SWB Berlinetta won Ferrari the GT class of the 1961 Constructor's Championship, as well as following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the TDF, and winning the Tour de France between 1960 and 1962. Success was had in England as well where the SWB also won the RAC Tourist Trophy races at Goodwood in 1960 and 1961.The example we're offering is a steel bodied car that has the honour of being the final RHD SWB ever produced, having been completed in September of 1962 - of the 90 Road Going versions of the SWB only 11 were RHD, of these 11 only 6 were of the steel bodied persuasion. Not only was this RHD car delivered new to the USA, but it was the only SWB ever produced that wasn't delivered to Maranello in the UK.In the mid-80's the car made its way to Switzerland where it received a significant restoration of the bodywork, engine, gearbox, axle and suspension. The car remained unfinished until the mid-90's when it was finished in a rich Blue over Light Tan Connolly interior.The car received Classiche Certification from Ferrari - verifying the car to be entirely matching numbers - in 2011. In September of 2012 the car was displayed at the Salon Prive Concours. 2013 saw an engine rebuild that featured uprated cams, as well as a fresh axle rebuild. Finally, the car was returned to its original colour of Verde Tevere, arguably one of the finest colours ever to feature on a SWB!A chance to own a SWB is a rare one, a chance to own a RHD car even rarer. A chance to own a RHD SWB, in such unique colour that has been so well documented, maintained and cared for is unheard of.
