Description
General motors to only build 950 of the 1001 originally planned. Only 284 were RHD as with our example, No. 398(G); a very rare original survivor complete with all the handbooks contained within the unique Lotus green leather folder, an abundance of receipts and paperwork relating to this car., One of most controversial road car ever built; the very rare Lotus Type 104 or Lotus Carlton. Lotus Engineering Team silenced their critics taking the slightly dull GM production car increasing the engine size to 3.6L boosted by 2 Garrett T25 turbos, adding an intercooler system, upgrading the brakes, steering and suspension. The end result was 377bhp, 0-60mph in 5.1 secs and a top speed of 176mph, making it the fasted saloon car in the world, a title it kept for quite some time.
