One of the local landowners put up a fake speed camera (not very good one) on the edge of one of his fields as speeding traffic was a major danger as cars and bikes come down off the fast down land roads into the village. It reached to local news and media and generally caused the landowner a lot of unwanted attention as to whether it was legal or safe to do so. I can't see the issue here, its a yellow box, not a road sign, on private land. If you crash because you see it you really are going too fast in the first place, so I cant see any safety issues, and there are plenty of "fake" ones installed by the local authorities all over the country. Opinions please.

Not sure what logic is at work here.

Point taken, I'm just saying if you are so dumb to crash because of this, you should not have a licence in the first place.

The problem being, of course, is when you involve someone else in your idiocy-induced accident...

A friend of mine and her neighbours were having issues with people speeding past their houses. Houses are on a steep hill and the limit drops from NSL to 30. Cars continuing throigh at double the speed limit etc when one side of the road had parked cars.

Allotment proprietor opposite "repurposed" an old "for sale" board with day-glo yellow paint. Worked like a charm.

More people support them than oppose them. The majority agree that they save lives.

Who says?

I don't think I know anyone who thinks they save lives. The speed cameras and camera vans are never anywhere near the real danger spots, they are sited where they'll generate money.

Just down the road from me and I agree it’s not even close to being a likeness - having said that the number of time I drive through the village at the limit and have someone race up behind me - I can appreciate the concerns of the local - especillay trying to turn out from the shop

Of course they are. If they were sited to reduce life-threatening accidents they'd all be (a) outside schools at 8.30am and 3pm (b) on the Snake, Cat & Fiddle and Woodhead passes.

Is that the one near Newbury.
You must be new to the area as it's been there for the last like 5 years at least!

My frustration is there placing.

Outside schools, and through towns I fully support.

My village is a 40 limit, I live on the outskirts, understanding gears and engine speeds, cars must be getting close to three figures at times past my house. I doubt any cars stick to the limit at our house, but there not interested in policing here, but very happy to police the really long accident free straight bit that used to be NSL.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a full size cut out policeman to tuck in the front hedge..
