Just found an empty beer can in our back garden this morning, next to our house. It's not possible for that beer can to arrive there without it being carried and left there.

There's no access from the road, at the bottom of the garden is a warehouse with a supposedly private passageway running around the back.

I've a feeling it's the town tramp who I've seen entering private business property land before. He's an irritant, he's either abusive to old people in town or off his face, not a nice character who was done for GBH years ago as well.

Haven't shown the wife as she'd blow a nut worrying, not sure what to do next...

Is it worth installing cameras? What would happen next if I got evidence, would it actually make a difference?

Can the likely access route be secured? Sounds like it’s a good idea whether your suspicions are true or not.

put a 'tell tale' across where you think he's gaining access. maybe sellotape or thread, even a twig. With imagination you'll figure something out. It has to be done so that only a person could disturb it. A tin of food would be a funny tell tale, lol.

If it's just a can it's more likely someone has thrown it surely?

Get a ring camera for piece of mind.

Could be youths throwing cans into gardens? Not that I did such things as a youth or moving forsale signs I definitely didn’t do that.

Leave a thermos flask of hot soup where the beer can was and if it is gone in the morning you will know for sure.

Foxes? They bring all sorts into the garden (knickers off the neighbours line/old shoes left in people’s porches)

No way it could have been thrown from anywhere. From the road, it would have to go over the house and from the bottom of the garden are trees so no clear trajectory.

Also it was located in a pretty nice hole inbetween a gabione basket and some stone work. It's somewhere that you'd put a can, if you didn't want to accidentally knock it over.

I mentioned this to our electrician who's ex-police another time when someone stole a bicycle from our garage. He seemed to think that camera's aren't that effective as people just cover-up their faces. His opinion was to put heavy engine grease on the top of the fences as people don't like to get their clothes dirty.

Had a look around the garden, no obvious signs of entry. Probably have to accept that some people can go where they like on your property frown

I've had a random golf ball appear at my house and I have no explanation as to how it got here. I have no neighbours in close proximity, I am away from the road in the middle of fields and absolutely nowhere near a golf course.

I can't say I'm put much thought into it after the initial 'WTF'???
