lorry drivers policing closed lane /merging?
Discussion
was on the A1 yesterday , already in the right lane and up comes a "sign right lane closed in mtrs" , i stay where i am and figure i will stay there and merge towards the end , not speeding
lorry decides to pull out and creep along slower than the left lane , i assume to teach me a lesson for getting ahead and daring to use an empty lane
was i in the wrong? first time i've had this happen , soon as the closure ended i speed off and left him , so proved nothing other than slowing me by a minute

Always use all of the available road as intended by the highways management people and merge in turn at the top.
Rather then roaring up the right hand side and pushing in at the top it is more considerate to roll gently up the open lane and wait patiently to be let in at the top which normally happens immediately or within 3 cars.
If another vehicle blocks the lane then just wait behind it as you are still progressing as fast as everyone else. If you are patient you may earn double bubble by getting past when their guard is down. Triple bonus if you manage to get in on the left and block them merging at the top,

this was the plan , i was just wafting along ,not steaming along in a flash sports car that would rile anyone Glenn63 said:
I’m a lorry driver and don’t get why other lorry drivers (or anyone) do this. They are a moron who doesn’t know how to drive is the only thing I can think of. Use both lanes up to the merge point.
My guess is because Lorry drivers are affected more than most by the constant braking and acceleration resulting from people “merging in turn “ . Funnily enough when Lorries do this it will create two lanes that are full of traffic with both lanes merging in turn rather than one slow moving lane and one relatively empty lane, which is the correct outcome.

I suppose it must be immensely frustrating to sit in the left lane while vehicles (including me) pile past in the right lane and then disrupt the flow of traffic as we cut in. I had someone in a 911 block me out the other day, but I’d passed half a mile of standing traffic.
Well the answer is simple - don't sit in the left lane.... use both lanes and merge in turn.Countdown said:

If people would merge in turn properly there wouldn’t be any constant braking and acceleration. Also when lorries or anyone else does this they are effectively increasing the length of the roadworks and increasing everyone’s delay.Funnily enough when Lorries do this it will create two lanes that are full of traffic with both lanes merging in turn rather than one slow moving lane and one relatively empty lane, which is the correct outcome.
But hey-ho we’re British and the que is sacred and que jumpers are evil.

Corrected that for you.But hey-ho we’re British and the queue is sacred and sensible law-abiding drivers are evil.

Aren’t the lorry drivers ensuring the queue is equal in both lanes rather than one super long queue and one empty lane? But hey-ho we’re British and the que is sacred and que jumpers are evil.
I’m not sure how they can make the queue “longer”. The volume of traffic is the same, they’ve also implemented merge in turn (which is what everybody wants). The only annoyance is going to be from the queue jumpers, isn’t it?

Ok. How about the ones who enjoy taking advantage of a relatively empty lane to pass everybody who merged early? The lorry driver is forcing both lanes to queue and merge in turn. Everybody keeps saying that is the correct way, so why the grief for the Lorry driver?

Kings of the road , professional drivers, always moaning about everyone else’s poor driving standards but can often be found doing stupid stuff like this. If it’s an artic, get out and put his trailer brakes on then go around them
How does one do this, please?(Asking for a friend).
