Can a PPC search their ANPR database?
Discussion
Hello folks.
PPC= Private Parking Company.
Went to local Sainsburys twice on a Saturday, once at 9.00 once at 18:00 both for 20 mins ish. I do this often (don't ask).
I have now received a PCN from the PPC for a 9 hour stay - so their ANPR is playing up presumably.
On the day in question I also visited another car park at around 11.00 which is operated by the same PPC and also uses ANPR.
My question is - can I reasonably expect them to be able to search their ANPR database for my reg to prove my point?

Private parking fines should never be paid. Plenty of standard responses available online; send one back to them and ticket will be cancelled.

Incorrect. If you've knowingly broken the terms then yes they should be paid. Ignoring them does not make them go away.TX.
However in this case as there is an error, appeal via usual methods.

Just simply reply with the times you visited and mention you went elsewhere between these times at a site they manage. If this wish to review this they can. If not, just appeal via the usual method.
Thanks for responses. I am certainly planning to appeal and not to pay. Mrs Fodder has been drafted in as witness if required
I was just curious if it's possible for them to query their databases for a specific reg...
They're very (very) unlikely to respond saying "Dear Mr Fodder, you're quite right, we've checked our database and you were indeed somewhere else during the period, our bad..." so I suppose we'll never know unless we have any tame PCC techs on PH?

You could speculatively make a Subject Access Request to them for all data they hold on your vehicle. It should prompt them to supply you with images of your vehicle somewhere else at the time they say you were parked. However they will most likely make some bullsPPC= Private Parking Company.

t excuse up so just appeal that you made 2 visits to Sainsburys that day and the ANPR is incorrect. But just to cover all bases before an appeal go and visit Sainsburys and ask to speak to the manager who should have the ability to get it cancelled on your behalf (just make sure you get proof by email or such like that it has been cancelled)

Ooooh yes that sounds like it's a royal PITA for them so I'll definitely mention that in my appeal

Its a common thing for private company ANPR operated sites. Commonly known as double dipping.
Of course they know its an issue, but as a lot of people are scared into paying these invoices, its not in their interest to sort their software out to not issue fines in these circs.
So long as there's no 'cant return within so long' clause, a simple email or appeal should sort it.

Make the enquiry, but do not state that you were the driver - "two trips were made to Sainsburys, the first at 08:00hrs departing at approx 08:20; the second at 16:00 hrs departing at 16:20, so please check your cameras are operating correctly."
Reason for not naming the driver is to keep that in reserve if they reject your appeal as they do love their free money that many people pay them.

Interesting that our local Sainsbury carpark operates a pay and display( it accepts cions!),£1 for two hours refunded with purchases over £5. No silly put you reg in, and "policed" by real person, no cameras linked the parking company either, it's also free on Sunday and bank holidays. When the store was built the council retained the carparking rights, hence the slight odd T&C's .

The three within our orbit are all completely free and unrestricted.Waitrose is the usual supermarket for such complaints and the managers absolutely will not get involved.

Thanks folks.
I've done the appeal. I've also found the paperwork from an identical incident at the same place 6 years ago.
Also hit Sainsburys with an SAR for their in-store CCTV just to help them share the pain...
Just curious, how do you think a SAR for their in-store CCTV would be accomplished? It's not SAR-able.I've done the appeal. I've also found the paperwork from an identical incident at the same place 6 years ago.

cool, I stand corrected. Be interesting to see if the OP gets the foootage, especially given this...The CCTV owner might not be allowed to share any footage if:
other people can be seen in it
