Is it worth reporting to the police?
Discussion
I've got a very clear video of someone scoping out my car on my drive, he was looking through the windows with a torch to see if there were any valuables worth stealing.
There wasn't anything worth stealing so he moved on but I wonder if it may help to send the video? But I also wonder they'll not be interested because nothing was stolen and/or they've got bigger crimes to look into.
If there are any posters in the police it would be good to have your input.
Thanks!

I would normally have said no, but in January last year the camera on our front door caught someone trying the handle at about 0230 to see if the door was unlocked. My wife decided to report it. As they had received a few other reports they attended, spoke my wife and to next door who managed to also have caught their face on the door camera. The couple were arrested and sentenced to 2 years as the information we provided along with other intelligence the police had received enabled them to build a strong enough case.
I had a video of someone walking on to my drive to try the door handle of my car. I had a clear video of his face. I passed it to the police and they caught him for a burglary at a house in the town later that morning. I like to think that the clear picture helped in identifying him. So pass it to the police, you don't know what he was up to before or after he looked in your car.

Thanks guys I've submitted a report online
Excellent work. It all helps build a picture, for all we know there could be a spate if thefts in your area and this might just be the little snippet of information that allows the police to see who's responsible.
It's always worth sending stuff like this in, regardless of what certain PH posters may think.
Got a call from the police station today and they said the clip had helped them considerably.

Ask the police if there have been a spate of vehicle burglaries recently in your area because you have a video that may show the fThere wasn't anything worth stealing so he moved on but I wonder if it may help to send the video? I had the same a few years back, Ring Doorbell cam captured a scrote trying our gate and then the cars etc at about 3am, sent it over to the police later that day. Turns out a number of break ins happened that night and they police used our footage to identify them, the guy that reviewed the footage seemed to think he knew who it was instantly!Greendubber said:
