Extremely worried, so please be gentle ! Car broke down so given a courtesy hire car, but Satnav not working. Yesterday I was travelling southbound on M6. Took over driving at Lymm Moto (Jnct 20a) but only when got to @ Sandbach (Jnct 17) did the penny drop that I didn't have my speed camera warnings that I have on my own car (duhhh !). Looked back on Google and it appears I have gone through 3 speed cameras in @ 30 mins or so. Was probably driving 80+ but certainly below 85. Am I likely to get 3 X 3 points ? I already have 3 so worried about a ban.

BTW: didn't see any flashes, but understand these cameras don't need to flash any more ?

Constructive comments, firstly we don't know, you will have to wait and see.

Secondly, why do you rely on "gadgets" to help you drive? Are you not capable of looking at your speedo and driving to the conditions (cameras)

Grumps.

I doubt you will get a ban but points and a hefty fine.

Just for future reference, nearly all motorways are 70mph unless indicated and all motor vehicles have a dial that will indicate the speed you are travelling.

A few times over the years I have seen the flash and expected the NOIP letter but got nothing.

In the old days they actually had film in them and got through the roll fast, but would continue flashing.

City of Oxford had only 20% cameras active in the 90's when I lived there.

Good luck, slow down.

So you prefer to look at your speedo and scan for camera's rather than look at the road. Excellent advice, very constructive and showing such incisive thinking. rofl

Not another idiot on the road!

You don't need fancy gadgets, most normal people just watch their speedometer to check that they are not exceeding 70.

Most modern cars have a speed limiter, if you're incapable of maintaining a speed without having your eyes glued to the speedo then I'd suggest using the limiter.
I'd like to think that most competent drivers can reach their chosen cruising speed and maintain it whilst scanning the road for hazards, cameras aren't particularly difficult to see and whilst there's never a 'good' time to speed, if the conditions mean you're having to focuys significantly to spot the cameras
then perhaps you should be at or below the speed limit anyway.

Could you highlight the part of that post that states one has to constantly look at a speedo and not the road ahead?

School certainly is out now I agree.

Provided none of the gantries showed a reduced speed limit then I reckon you'll be fine

I've noticed on my section of the m62 that on the gantries that carry a camera, despite traffic being normal levels, the speed limits are reduced for no obvious reason other than we've got them so we might as well use them

M1 section just below meadowhall at Sheffield is permanently at 60 for 'air quality' which also happens to be a highly camera's stretch

I think the OP is worried that he could be inline for a totting ban which would be the case if he has 3 points already and maybe inline for another 3x3 points, maybe one of them could be eligible for a course

Clearly you don't use the M40 very often..........

I must have special magic eyes because I can watch my speedo, drive and look out for cameras, all without getting a ticket for 20 years or having an accident ever.

I'll raise you: I manage all the a I've and also cram in looking at these things that stick out from the doors and another one at the top of the windscreen every now and then!

In all seriousness, and this isn't a go at the OP, the idea of not being able to make regular checks of the speedo is ludicrous. Admittedly some are easier to read than others, but even in the motorway making checks every, I don't know, 30s or so is pretty simple.

I am alright Jack

Maybe he could get three reduced to one by claiming same stretch of road so single offence.

What's the betting that the OP is about 23, with 2 years driving experience ?

With modern technology, anyone who goes even a few miles an hour over any speed limit is taking a risk.

If you value your licence stick rigidly to the speed limit.

Hopefully you will be OK, but it will be squeaky bum time for a couple of weeks.

Good luck.

And why would that be then? What risk is incurred by just going a few miles an hour over the limit?

The risk of being caught and educated/fined/pointed/banned
