Bristol Airport Drop-Off Fine
Discussion
Took Mrs Indie to the above mentioned Airport and whilst in the queue of Traffic to get to the drop off area I was stopped at a Zebra crossing to (rather obviously) let people across and she jumped out.
Obviously there are warnings for all sorts of Parking transgressions and a £100 charge has arrived. One of the two pictures shows a part-way open door and the other just shows me stopped at the Zebra Crossing.
As I was stopped on a road that leads directly from the main A road does a Parking Company actually have the ‘power’ to levy this charge or is the road in Bristol Airport not a proper road ?
Obviously I will look at the other sites for specific info / advice but does anyone on here have any actual relevant experience they could share ?

Seems a bit harsh, I'd pay the £60 and move on, then again I'm all for a simple life.

Wisdom on Pepipoo is that airports are covered by byelaws and so are not "relevant land" under the Protection of Freedoms Act.
Therefore they cannot transfer liability from the driver to the Registered Keeper, they don't know who the driver is, and you (the RK) don't have to tell them.

Even though it’s a marked red route, it does seem harsh.https://www.bristolairport.co.uk/to-and-from-the-a...

It’s not even as if the people had finished crossing the road and the OPs wife was grabbing a case out of the boot/holding up traffic. All she did was get out whilst they were still crossing the road?
I dropped my daughter off at Manchester airport three weeks ago. It took less than 4 minutes but the exit barrier relieved me of £5 before letting me out.
However, it was only after I had got out of the car to give her a hug, walking 10 metres from the car for 30 seconds, did I notice the sign about a £100 fine for exiting the car. Pretty disgusting stuff I'd say. I haven't received a letter yet though.

They do seem to clamping down there to say the least. There are double red lines all over the place, which they say are no stopping all, as in London. I did hear the airport police were enforcing them in the area, but I did see the regular police ticketing people parked outside the airport the other day. I`d try arguing it, but the fact you door was open would mean you were stopped and dropping someone off.
I know somebody who uses Bristol Airport few times a year. Apparently, it's a known drop off spot / manoeuvre.
They bung a local a tenner or so to walk across the zebra crossing just as you're approaching (they know the car details) so you have to stop. They take their time too, so people can jump out. Perhaps they got wise to it.

If I was dropping someone off and didn't want to pay the £5 on principle ...I heard the Church Car park at Felton common would be a nice place for a picnic and a leisurely walk to the airport (about 10 mins)

Strange place that common though. Seems like the middle of nowhere, until an Easyjet plane skims the hedges

You’re saying that to avoid paying the £5 drop-off charge (for up to 20mins stop/wait time) they’re instead paying £10 for someone to walk over a zebra crossing so the passenger can disembark in seconds? Why would anyone pay twice as much for less convenience? Seems like BS.

It’s not as if the drop off and pickup zone is far from the terminal either, it’s immediately next to it. I find myself there every few weeks and whilst I’d rather not pay a fiver to drop off, it’s somewhat irrelevant compared to the rest of the travel cost and if it limits the congestion then I’m happy.

Love walking my dogs there, esp when it's foggy (which it is quite a lot !) Then you hear a jet overhead like you could touch, but cannot see it.

Stupid place for an airport.

I wondered whether this was really enforceable when I dropped off there a few months ago.
Whatsmore, if I've stopped for the crossing and my passengers independently decide "f
k this" and get out of the car, I can't reasonably stop them. In my case they were travelling light so no need to open boot.
I get that they don't need everyone stopping and unloading on the main throughfare, it would rapidly become carnage, but it doesn't seem reasonable to me. I've never seen this charging setup anywhere else outside the UK on my travels either, unless I'm just blind. Is it common anywhere else?
