Rear ended someone
Discussion
I think I know the answer to this question but thought I would ask and see what the general consensus is.
Approaching a junction with poor visibility to the left. Car in front sets off to the right, with him on the move I am focusing on checking that it's clear to the left. Once I confirm its clear to the left, I set off and hit the back of the car thay had set off but was now stationary in the middle of the road.
I checked back my dashcam footage, he sets off, then stops suddenly and he goes into reverse before we make contact.
Pretty certain it will be a 'my fault' Claim for this one but seeing what people's opinions are on the situation. He said he missed a gear but it looks clear that he was going the wrong way (diversion in place) so stopped and was going to reverse back to go a different way. Why you'd do it on a blind junction I don't know but there you go.
Suppose I'm hoping for a slight chance that the insurance companies recognise his dodgy manoeuvre but I guess at best it will be a 50/50.
Cheers.

He went into reverse, how much he moved though is quite minimal. Just a very strange manoeuvre to pull where he did.
Thanks for the input.
I hope no one was hurt? Thanks for the input.
I drove a car with reverse next to 6th for a long time, then drove a mate's car with reverse next to first.
I got hooted when I was about to pull away from some lights!
I got away with just embarrassment. Lucky!
From what you say, I get the impression you don't feel 100% blameless?
Dashcam footage has a tendency to show the dashcam owner 'could have done better'.
It's why we have insurance.
Phone your insurance company and say there maybe a crash for cash case and can you send the dash cam footage - they'll review it and decide if there's a case to answer. Your NCB bonus is just a part of how renewals are calculated - another part is how much was paid out. So if you can get to a 50/50 or it turns non-fault it certainly helps.

It was all rather slow speed, passenger of the other vehicle jumped out and complained of a sore neck instantly, I've some back ache now but otherwise all OK.I drove a car with reverse next to 6th for a long time, then drove a mate's car with reverse next to first.

I guess it's the emotion of the situation, I have a range of feelings going on at the moment I suppose.

The thing is even if it goes 50/50 it's still a claim on your policy to declare for the next number of years and may affect your no claims in the same way.
My point being there's no point worrying about it as the outcome for you is the same either way.
You're correct, I do have protected no claims, but as you say, still a claim to declare no matter the outcome. My point being there's no point worrying about it as the outcome for you is the same either way.
I suppose once I've had chance to speak to a human (I hope) at my insurer, I can relax a little.

I've already sent the footage through, I want to highlight that fact as it stinks a bit to me. Good shout.Aydogflipper said:

Sounds like a scam, crash for cash type then.I guess it's the emotion of the situation, I have a range of feelings going on at the moment I suppose.

Well, to conclude the thread. Spoke to my insurer who have allocated full blame on myself. I explained the situation and provided footage. They do accept what I stated but ultimately laid full responsibility at my door.
Is what it is and not worth the battle. We move on. Thanks all.
Did they explain to you why they are not pursuing your cash for crash claim? Is what it is and not worth the battle. We move on. Thanks all.
Slamming into reverse and instantly claiming a sore neck has all the hallmarks.

That's quite a leap, the tone of the OP was1) Driver in front realised diversion was in place
2) OP would have hit driver in front even if he hadn't reversed
3) Passenger in front is a chancer (the adrenaline of a real accident generally disguises muscle pain, throwing up after a few minutes is a more genuine reaction).
