I kinda fond out by accident that there's a recall for cam position and crank position sensors on my 2014 GC ecodiesel. I say 'kinda' because I had picked this up on a US Facebook page which referred to owners having letters from main dealers asking them to make appointments. Turns out similar had happened in the UK but as I had no letter I messaged Jeep UK asking what I should do? They advised me just to book it in to my local main dealer which I attempted to do but was turned away on account of the age of my vehicle! This didn't feel right to me so I contacted Jeep UK explaining what had happened and what did they suggest I do next? Sod's Law....my car broke and the chief suspect is the crankshaft positioning sensor. I don't know whether to be pi$$ed at Jeep UK for not having notified me about the problem or my dealer at implausibly turning me away...or indeed both. I'm feeling a massive sense of injustice here and would value some advice.

At the time of writing Jeep UK are yet to respond to my offer to get the work done with my local (very skilled, time served) mechanic but I'd expect them to pick up the bill...which would include vehicle recovery as the car is stationary on my drive in a very immovable state.

I think it's quite common for manufacturers to be forced to perform recalls in the USA but less so in the UK. In the USA they're a lot more keen on class action lawsuits and if someone organises one and the judgement happens the manufacturer has to do the recall. But there's no compulsion on the manufacturer to make class action lawsuits for recalls in the USA into worldwide recalls.

It is worth contacting the UK head office to see what they say. But if it's a negative from them too then probably not going to be a free fix.

Yeah, I know it's unwise to compare UK with US consumer rights where our friends across the water appear to have dealers over a barrel. But where I feel particularly aggrieved is that responses to a post I placed on the UK Grand Cherokee Owners FB site suggested many UK owners had indeed received letters from Jeep UK directing on what they needed to do. I don't understand why I wasn't amongst them, especially as my car was purchased from a main dealer. I think I've slipped through Jeep's net.

If at all possible it would be a good thing if you could get your hands on a copy of a letter from another member who is willing to share to help you out. Show that to the dealer and Jeep GB and they shouldn't be able to refuse.

That’s a great suggestion, I’ve asked the question on the FB group. I might just ask the same thing on the Jeep page here. Cheers

Try the 'Off Road' section instead. Plenty of Jeep owners in there.

I undserstand your annoyance.

But when my crankshaft position sensor in a Mercedes ML, not a Jeep, failed two things happened:

1. The first time it failed for an hour - when the car had cooled down enough it reset itself and the car started and ran again. Unfortunately it had chosen to break down outside Currys PC World, with predictable effects on my wallet... smile
2. The second time it broke terminally, a mile from home in deep snow, and with two dogs in the car. They rather enjoyed the extra walkies, even though the snow was nearly deep enough to lose a spaniel.

What I do remember is that it didn't cost a lot to replace.
Are Jeep crankshaft position sensors silly money, or buried inaccesibly?

If you put your reg into the gov uk MOT history checker, I believe it will also tell you if there are any outstanding recalls on the car.
