Reported today that some motorists are tying red ribbons to their grille as a protest to 20mph speed limits. I suppose it might gain traction as more motorists don it, though do the authorities take any notice of public opinion in this matter?
It apparently harks back to the days of a man walking with a red flag in front of a car.

I've noticed a massive influx of these near me. They all seem to be done 'on the cheap' with the council (?) not bothering to remove the "30" flashing signs, or the ones that tell you your current speed. Cameras don't seem to trigger when people fly through them at 30. Some places still have a 30 up too.

I also find sticking to 20 much more difficult that 30, maybe adjustment, maybe feels too slow.

As if that will have even the slightest effect, it’s not like anyone is out there counting the number of red ribbons tied to cars banghead

I have noticed similar inconsistencies even before the change. I imagine we can look forward to many unjustified speeding prosecutions- perhaps everyone who drives in Wales will need a dashcam to prove what signage was actually in place at the time, as opposed to what the authorities think should have been there.

I'll keep an eye out for the red ribbons.

The solution is simple. If you don't like 20mph limits where you live then make that clear to the councillor(s) that represent your ward. If they don't listen then don't vote for them next time. It's literally the only thing they understand. Look at the Labour leadership and ULEZ; before the Uxbridge by-election not a peep, after they lost they've been queuing up to say they don't think it's such a good idea.

Sounds like the sort of thing Janet on Facebook would do to her Kia Sportage, and then post about it with a happy birthday background.

Does Janet drive a Sportage which is powered by fairy dust by any chance?

This, but ....

Its a colossal waste of money to 1. roll out and 2. roll back.

So why would any councillor revert a 20mph limit.

This is the reason I won't ever vote Lib Dem. Before too long we will have 15mph limits through built up areas. Then it'll be no drive zones.

This is what happens when you let far leaning left/right personalities in positions of authority or power.

Some of the 20mph zones I encounter on my commute I often get to drive through them at 15mph due to 'some' drivers not wanting to exceed the limit

This. Its a thinly veiled message to persuade the general public to do this. I think there is more value to tieing a tight ribbon around a Just Stop [insert cause] protesting thing. Don't be a Janet, don't be a sheep. If you object to something, put in writing instead of using up Christmas bows.
