Passed someone doing that on the M40 at the weekend. No passenger and I presume the Tesla was driving itself.

Sadly not enough police these days.

At the risk of being called a miserable git, I fully endorse the use of these cameras. Far too many people not concentrating on what they're doing whilst driving.

It is incredible to me so many folks don’t wear seatbelts. I would have guessed like 1 in 1000 people do it. It seems to be very common from the stats.

Just noticed the phone wker in OPS pic also doesn’t have one on…

I have no problem with cameras such as this.
Hope they get points and a fine.

Provided the human being who views the photographs before a prosecution decision is made has (and sometimes uses) discretion, I am all for it. My worry would be if that discretion got lost.
Can the AI use more than one picture, or a film clip, over a short period to separate the ridiculous, like this one which clearly deserved prosecution, from a brief and misleading hand position which has no bearing on the driver's control? Will it capture involuntary movements which might look like deliberate lack of attention, such as a sneeze?

Why not just get the passenger to send the text?

What is AI about the camera? Just taking pics by the looks of it.

Nothing - but presumably they are using AI to analyse the thorusands of photos and put forward a short list to the humans to decide who's for the guillotine?

"Although the cameras use AI to detect potential offences, all images are reviewed by a person, said Devon and Cornwall Police"

Whilst I agree that it's better that the daft offences like the one pictured are prosecuted, do we really want all our driving monitored by AI all the time? I don't.

If it saves lives yes.

We used to walk to school, the amount of parents looking down at their phones while driving every morning was shocking, every other one I'd say, then you go down the motorway, car in the middle lane, nobody around them at all, as you go past they are looking down to their right as they have their phone down their side.

When I first saw the photo I thought the lady in question might have been pleasuring the gentleman rather than holding the steering wheel.

You are happy to have all your driving monitored by AI then?

Good, all for it. I hope they catch more drivers using their phones etc. Seatbelts in the front I don't care so much about.

Yes, I would be. What's the issue? Its basically pattern matching at scale. A human then does the final review and sending out fine etc.

What do you think the risks/downsides are?
