Changing Reg No on 3 cars
Discussion
Car 1 = ABC 1
Car 2 = CBA 1
Car 3 = AA 08 AAA
I want to move 'ABC 1' from Car 1 to Car 2
Then Car 1 will revert to it's original reg.
I want to move CBA 1 from Car 2 to Car 3.
So they become:-
Car 1 = Orig reg
Car 2 = ABC 1
Car 3 = CBA 1
Can I do this with DVLA in one transaction or am I best to do it in separate stages?

Do you want to retain car 3 number?
If so need to put them all on to retention then transfer them to the appropriate vehicles. Once you have the retention numbers can normally transfer them to the new vehicles online.
Car 3 - No, I presume it'll eventually revert to it's original number when sold in a few years time. If so need to put them all on to retention then transfer them to the appropriate vehicles. Once you have the retention numbers can normally transfer them to the new vehicles online.
Car 2 is about to come home on Tuesday fingers crossed after far too many years in the bodyshop. But it will look superb. Owned for 16 years.
Car 1 will then go up for sale. Owned 7 years and I have loved it. Rallied it, hill climbed it, scenic tours and trips to France and Spain. I'm reducing my cars from 5 to 3.
Thanks for your advice..
Plate 2 to car 3, then when complete plate 1 to car 2.
No need for retentions and no need to complicate matters with DVLA by trying to do two things at once.
Should hopefully be able to do all online if tax/SORN rules have been followed correctly.
Get DVLA to do more things at once at your peril!

Er…. I did this once, before things went online. Done by post, all the forms filled in and with a very explicit bullet point list of the sequence and what plat should end up on what vehicle.
It was a disaster! No car had the correct plate. And one plate - the most expensive ABC123 format - had disappeared and been replaced with some random plate - presumably the original from when the car was new.
The thought of trying to get this resolved was a bit alarming, especially as on had vanished.
I had an amazing stroke of luck in getting to speak to someone at the dvla in Manchester, a very helpful chap called Mark. He had the whole lot sorted straightaway.
My point is just do the transfers onto retention in stages - you might need to take a week waiting for V5s to come back

I have just started a process after speaking to the DVLA .
Bought a car off my mate with a private plate on it that is his girlfriend's, I have my own plate on retention.
First plate onto retention then wait for the new V5 ( 3-5 working days ) transfer my retained plate onto car .
Transfer girlfriend's plate onto her new car when asked .
These days the DVLA can be very helpful if you explain yourself simply .
They didn't used to be .
The same with Vosa traffic examiners ,many of them can explain things in simple terms (even via email) that otherwise had me in total confusion.
