I had some windows installed by a local guy who has done a lot of places in my local area that are blowing after about 3/4 years.

Two French door windows have gone and he came round 3 months ago, sized them up and even said he was going to come round at a certain date.

He's gone radio silent when he'd reply before.

The guys been trustworthy in the past, I always see him around and say hello and I even took him for a round of golf as a thank you on the original big job and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as anything could have happened as I haven't seen his van about for a while.

However should I put a letter through the door to "remind" him about my comms and play ignorance to his ignorance?

What does your warranty say? Ours in 2018 states 15 years sealed unit guarantee

If you have a warranty you can claim against that. However if he is a one-man-band i suspect your warranty will be leveraged against him/his business and therefore pretty much useless if he has failed to honour his previous appts.

Sorry OP i think you are on your own.

We have moved to a new area and for the first time have signed up to all the local Faceache groups to help get to know the area and I was very surprised how much knowledge is shared recommending local trades. Try looking him up on there and search for any mentions in groups..

Did you receive a FENSA certificate and a written warranty ?

I had my double glazing renewed about two years ago and the paperwork was quite comprehensive. It's also requested by the solicitor if/when you sell your property.

Small caveat re local Faceache recommendations - watch out for friends and family of the tradesperson recommending them. Happens a lot. Try to go for people who are well recommended.

They will be guaranteed and he came round and measured but if the blokes as harry would say "incommunicado" then I'm asking if a polite letter is fine before I get heavier on action.

Thought's putting myself in his shoes of one man band world of excuses/rationale is;

1. He told me they would be replaced under warranty and it turned out he used them on another job so is waiting for replacements.
2. He couldn't get this sorted under warranty due to poor install
3. He's just snowed under
4. Something life changing has happened, a Divorce, a next of kin dying, etc

I usually see him locally working/driving around for work, Facebook groups locally are not for me so will drive past his house I think and see if he's "in".

Assuming you used a Fensa registered installer and didn’t do it on the cheep the guarantee is for a minimum of 5years.

Mine was requested at my last re-mortgage as well...

As mentioned above, the easiest way to find out what's happened to him is to join local Facebook/Nextdoor groups.

Going round to his house is bang out of order IMO.

Yes but I would be writing a letter mate not threatening him at his doorstep.

If he trades from home, why is it wrong to go to his business base to ask him?

Nobody is suggesting intimidation!

Phone him,if he doesn't answer (or get back to you within a few hours if he's on a job) knock on his door.
If a customer put a letter through my door without knocking on 1st I'd think he was a dick.
People today seem scared to talk, it's all texts, emails or whatever

And if I had a customer knock on my door, after hours or especially if I wasn’t there and bothered my family, he’d soon get a visit to remember.

If your home address is the one you use for your business then visitors are to be expected. Easy to fix smile

I'm not asking his family to sort the windows he should be sorting....I could ask them how they have eaten since I paid for the full work originally to be done (and others on recommendation?)

Do you know which company manufactured the windows? Maybe get in touch with them if he doesn't respond.
