Hi all,

Having to wait 14 days to know if you have a fine / points for a traffic violation (or not) is ridiculous these days.

We all have a login to the portal on the government's website. I can't think of a reason why the fine / points do not instantly show. Sure, if the gov still wants to send a letter, that's understandable, but put the motorist out of their misery.

I'm not saying that you can't appeal them, but they should at least show you there are fine / points are pending.

Am I missing something here? technically this sounds easy - so why has it not been done, does anyone know?

Cheers

We all have a login? I suspect that huge swathes of the population have never logged into a government portal...
Are you expecting the general population to proactively log into an online portal to see if they have picked up points?
a) they won't
b) they may not even be aware that they have passed a speed camera and be at risk of fine / points - do you expect them to log in every day just in case?
c) not everything is automated, some speeding infractions need to be assessed by a police officer / admin bod - so it can't always be instant - how do you factor that in?
d) if people don't log in and therefore do not respond - who picks up the liability for the lack of answer - what if the person has logged in several times and seen nothing, but then it appears after that...

current system works - why break it / why spend millions on computerising an extra layer onto something / it may still not be instant

You are missing he fact that the local police forces/road camera partnerships issue the initial NIP and Request for driver info. After that the driver needs to be notified and has to respond with what they want to do, be it course, fine and points or go to court.

None of that could be done online in any meaningful way.

Ssssshhhh!

Leave well alone.

I have dodged 2 lots of FPN over the years because it’s arrived late.

If you are so worried about bring caught you need to log on to check then either look here:

https://speedingcheck.co.uk/

Or slow down.

Thats evil...

But I get OPs point of view, but its the wrong solution. How about just using the numberplate to check? No need to disclose who was driving etc

Does it take time for someone to go to the camera, get the "evidence", process and check it?

I Can't believe anyone on here actually still believes that's a thing. That site amongst plenty of others was shown to be a scam when first launched. A car doesn't speed a driver does and which data base as they claim would be holding such information.

A scam for the gullible https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/speeding...

Your 14 days of misery is the punishment for knowing you've been speeding.

The points and fine are the punishment for getting caught.

Some can build speed and fail to decelerate when drivers off the throttle though, had that when throttle bypass valve started sticking.

Talking from the legal standpoint, a car doesn’t get nicked the driver does, so a scam website linking reg no’s to speeding tickets is ……….. a scam

Indeed, I wonder if the live searches are actually people putting their reg in, that would mean a lot of searches occur.
