Seeing as they expire every 10yrs, I need to replace mine. Is it possible to do this online?

I've tried on the Gov.uk website but it keeps rejecting me and telling me to either request a D1 form or get one from the Post Office. Seems a bit old fashioned nowadays if it has to be submitted by post.

You should get a reminder in the post with all the necessary info to renew online. I did mine recently, it was simple enough to do. I think they used the digital photo from my passport to use on the new license.

I think you can do it online but you need a valid passport for the recent photo.

I did mine in the post office, new licence back in a couple of days. The worst bit was seeing them cut up the old one there and then so make sure you carry the receipt with you.

You can do it on line, if you have a valid passport, from which they can pull your photo across. No problems at all. I kept my old licence, said I needed it for probate ID (which was true). New licence arrived in 3 days.

I never received the reminder, and my photo card has expired, maybe that is why they won't let me do it online?

I currently don't have a photo driving licence, but can't register online without having a valid passport, which I don't have.

Apparently there is a current issue with anyone who has the new passport which doesn’t contain a graphic of your signature stored online, so it can’t be used for the driving licence renewal online as signature and photo are needed

I'm going to go to the post Office tomorrow, their website says they can help renew the photocard for £21.50 which includes the price for a photo.

The Gov.uk website lets me go so far with renewing then I get this message saying I need the D2 form...

However this is for renewing HGV/PSV etc licence renewal...

Now I do have a HGV licence (though don't drive them and my medical has expired) so I either this is the reason the website is stopping me from renewing online, or because my photo card has expired. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Just been to the Post Office who submitted my renewal application. The lady there used her tablet to process it all, taking photos of my driving licence photo card, and of me. She said that as she had approved it all then the process at DVLA commences straight away as they don't need to wait to receive anything. It cost £21.50 for their service, photo and new photo card which I hope to receive soon.

I'm still on my paper licence, though there is some talk of making photo cards mandatory in a few years.

It's already mandatory at age 70 - which is when your licence expires. (I'm assuming you're under 70).

Yes, but how much did it cost?

Yes, mine expires in 2039.

I read somewhere that they're going to be converted to all photo cards by 2033.

I`m over 70 so have to renew mine every three years. Just done for the second time online (for free), the new licence arrived in a few days.

I’ve just gone through the online renewal process (using my fairly recent passport) and, fingers crossed, all seems to have worked.
However…I am uncomfortable about the requirement to immediately cut up the old licence and send back the pieces. I’ve read a lot of accounts of people losing entitlements - particularly motorcycle ones - and photocopies not being enough to get them back.
Consequently I’m holding on to the old one until the new one arrives and I can check it. Has anyone else done this - to confirm that they don’t wait for the pieces of the old one before sending the new one?

I've still kept the old one 8 months after they posted out the new one.
