Can't find any recent threads on this topic - and finding conflicting views online

Spare MOT'd car, looking to use for say 1 day. I can sort temp insurance, but need to be confident that I can tax (VED) it.

1. Is temp insurance sufficient to tax a vehicle? In principle I think so, but unsure whether it will show on MID quick enough?
2. or does the tax/MOT check now only check tax? I've seen the odd comment that the insurance check is dropped since continuous insurance came in
3. If above fails, do the post-office accept temp insurance only valid for that day? Or likely dependant on the branch? I can find a written rule.

I'll SORN the vehicle straight after the insurance runs out - just trying to keep everything above board for the using bit.

Thanks

If it doesn’t have an mot you cannot tax it

If you tax it then it needs to be insured, when taxing it doesn’t check the insurance just that it’s mot’d

So I see no issue insuring it, then taxing it although your going to lose a months tax. I shouldn’t matter if it shows on the mid as you will have a document to prove it’s insured.

Check with your insurance company as some will add another car for a limited period.

In practice, it seems they only check cars are insured 'in slow time' once they are taxed.
You can do the change of keeper and tax the car first, then switch your insurance to it the next day for instance.
You need it to be insured, perhaps with a short term policy, but there seems to be no routine checking more frequent than every week or so?

When you cancel your insurance they don't always update the MID immediately.

You no longer need insurance to tax a car, this has been the case for several years, all that is required is a valid MOT if applicable. but you will need to insure it promptlyafterwards to avoid a CIE fine
