Isn't that how they avoid speeding fines themselves?

So when they clock you at 80mph, it is actually the camera van going backwards?

You could always do a "straw poll" for us & drive past everyone you see too fast & see how many "tickets" you get. wink

They work as well on camera vans as they do on any other vehicle.

I have to admit, I haven't seen one. So they must work.

If the camera van is operating ANPR then a ghost plate can cause a misread.
The speed reading and speed cameras will not be affected in any way.
If the van is operating ANPR and speed detection cameras then the ANPR misread will be compared to the speed record or the video of the session if not speeding and you can report what happens when that occurs.
Good luck.

Those stupid enough to fit ghost plates are very likely to be involved in many other crimes. Advertise the idea that ghost plates are invisible to ANPR and you can bring in a load of otherwise hard to nail crims on a perverting the course of justice charge wink

There is usually a common denominator same as blackening side windows and idiotic windscreen tints, embossed plates, fart exhausts.

Same pathetic crap on bikes, tiny indicators, mini plates, black visors, race cans these cretins are so dumb it makes you realise they can also vote and breed, and you wonder why the world you live in is why it is...

I’ve never used them and never would as I believe they’re the preserve of self entitled tossers but my guess is that they DO work otherwise Parliament wouldn’t be bothering discussing ways of banning them.

I read somewhere that TfL is owed over £1m as a result of cars using them.

They already are banned under the current regulations.

I think what Parliament is discussing is why they are not being efficiently detected and the users adequately dealt with.

DVLA are punting out plates that they seem to realise can be manipulated to make names etc, but rely on the police to detect this misuse before DVLA takes any form of action.

There should be an equivalent of OpSnap at DVLA where images of plates can be sent to them so those who manipulate them into names etc are processed accordingly without input from the police, who have far more pressing issues.

While this won’t deal directly with ghost plates, it’s a start.

The next step for DVLA is to modify their VED detection caneras to spot ghost plates and they can deal directly. No need to involve the police unless a more serious crime is also detected.

I don't think its anything to do with cherished numbers, don't know where you got that from?

I think its more a case of, the plate is illegal and can't be read; and the authorities are trying to use ANPR cameras rather than actual police on the roads, to police things. Since the crime is that the plate can't be read, its kinda a vicious circle.
