Has anyone been caught by the sneaky yellow cameras hidden behind the stanchions for the overhead gantries on new sections of the M27?

My understanding of 'smart' motorways is you will get nicked if you exceed a lit up limited speed less than 70mph but even though they have the 'capability' to switch the gantry cameras on for 70 they have yet to do so.

But I was tipped off to these fixed yellow cameras sadly after a return trip past a few of them. Nothing crazy but enough to trigger a 70mph camera.

Has anyone got tickets from these?

The same type cameras are working at 70mph on other motorways, M3, M25 etc. Just stick to the limit and you'll be ok.

For reference i often use the M3 and M5 smart motorway areas and happily pass by them at "speed"+10%. Never had an issue

The cameras and IR emitters are pretty obvious to be fair. Apart from one set either side of the Hedge End junction which really are in front of the stanchion pole. The other clue is the additional CCTV cameras which are only in front of the gantry that actually have a camera on them. They have been active at all times since they were put in.

Yep they're on permanently. My mate got flashed doing 90mph at the Hedge End one. He tried to blame someone else though in typical fashion of him. I gave him zero sympathy. biglaugh

They are all over the country and I dont go over the speed limit its not worth it but I'm not sure if they flash you if you are a little bit over .
They do work though when the variable limit is in place so watch out !

Sadly they are on all the time, I know a few who have been caught. A return trip to my in-laws in Southampton from Gosport for me could see me banned if I wasn't aware.

I didn’t know about them until one flashed me. The speed limit had just dropped to 40 on the basis they were going to do some roadworks at some point that evening. I think I was doing about 50 when I passed it but I never heard anything.

Rare to see two knobhead posts by the same person in this short a period of time in one thread. " Saved for posterity ". Jesus. What a tosser.

Yes op, had some experience of those cameras, so far so good! Have you actually been ticketed?

So I'm a tosser? well I'm also a tosser with a clean licence, and don't need to come on PH and bleat about driving too fast and getting flashed by cameras, looking for sympathy from other muppets.

Maybe spend a bit more time being a grown up and not pretending you're a racing driver. biglaugh

Strangely, it's the ones who aren't pretending to be racing drivers who usually get caught. And whilst others may think you're a tosser, the reality is you're either a liar or delusional as everyone will exceed the speed limit at some point. No doubt you will get caught out one day, especially if you believe you never speed. Please come on here and tell us all about it when it happens so we can all have a biglaugh at your expense

Thanks for replying. Suspicions confirmed. Yes, you're a tosser.

I've also a clean licence. Big deal. I've spent many years driving too fast and never bleat when caught, which is hardly ever, because I think about the when and the where. But those are the risks when you're prepared to do so. But you already know that because only a full on, beyond tosser territory tt, would come and say they never speed.

So, you're not just a vanilla tosser, but an assumptive tosser. And a liar if you come back with a " I never speed " reply.

If you can't say something to assist the op with his question, why bother replying?

it does not matter how many years you have been driving fast without getting caught
its a matter of how many miles you do a year and not get caught

Higher milage drivers have less points than many of those doing 5 to 20 thousand a year

Yes the cameras work and last year caught a number of drivers ignoring the red X showing a closed lane on the motorway
