Lost wife's NCB?
Discussion
All our cars are/have been insured in both our names but, because I do the insurance my name is usually at the top of the docs. I have been insured and used my NCB but I am wondering what has happened to my wife's NCB. I don't know if she has lost it or if it even matters.
Do I need to plough back through all the old instance docs to see when she was last insured? I guess so...
I also suspect I have been using my NCB on all our cars which I am not sure I can do? Wouldn't the insurance database pick this up?
God this is suddenly complicated!

There is a cut of date they claim to no longer accept it, some brokers will of course be happy to do something to get some or all of it back, translate foreign ones or bike NCD to insurers though their contacts within insurers, or insurers may just accept it if explained and the situation of her having NCD and evidenced on other policy's all this time being explained. Pita if just a normal call handler with no real knowledge and computer says NO though.
They don't seem to like big gaps in not driving, and have known one chap going classic policy for 8 years get 4 years reinstated before.

You can only use your no claims on one policy unless the insurer has specifically agreed to mirror it on to other policies.
I have two lots of separate no claims currently, I’ve got 9 years on my main car and 4 which is currently unallocated as I usually have two cars but currently down to one.
I had it once where an insurer called me following taking out a policy to say my NCD was already in use, I explained I had two lots and they were fine with it but it does happen

I lost my NCB due to not having a car for a couple of years.
I was a named driver on my wife's policy.
It didn't make my insurance much more expensive.
Try comparison sites with and without 10 years NCB, for me the difference was about 10%, albeit with different insurers.
NCB is not what it was. What insurers want is firstly not to have a negative history and secondly, years of driving experience.
Anything out of the ordinary, actually speak to the insurer, you don't want to be accused of misleading them if ithe worst happens.

I used to have three cars on Admiral Multi
My then GF now Wife had a car with good NCD
I sold a car, have a classic policy and normal policy both with max NCD
We sold the wife’s car and I took a salary sacrifice EV she uses and is a named driver on / all.
The Salary sacrifice EV is on the lease Co (Octopus) insurance. 2yrs about to be anniversary in March.
I am getting all the ear ache to say she is ‘missing out / will lose her NCDs’’ as no longer a policy in her name, and ‘can’t drive any other car as 3rd party’ as doesn’t have a policy.
So wants a policy in her name
Obviously does not want to pay for one mi d.
Suggestions folks ?

I have multiple NCBs with the same insurer I have two lots of separate no claims currently, I’ve got 9 years on my main car and 4 which is currently unallocated as I usually have two cars but currently down to one.

.Re the OP. I'm pretty sure the NCB only gets credited to the policy holder, but it may be the main driver (these don't have to be the same person).
Mine have always had a two year expiry after they have stopped being used. I have even swapped them to keep them all current. It's easy to do at renewal time. Just ask if you can use the 11 year NCB this year and suspend the 20 year one, for instance. Next year, swap them back.
Last year, I had one that I knew hadn't expired, but I had lost the paperwork for it. I just phoned the insurer and they sent new paperwork to show that my NCB was current, although unused.

Find out if they still give you your no claims confirmation letter if you take out a policy and cancel within the 14 days statutory period, I used to keep mine alive doing that with insurers that had no cancelation fee so long as no claims had been made. worked out very well on occasion.
Now I keep a policy on a car just so I have "other cars" in an emergency.

With that statement, the insurance on "all your cars" (bar one) could be invalid.See this thread:

When my parents ran one far for a few years, they would swap the registered keeper/ insurance policy between them to protect their individual no claims.
Will impact number of owners I suppose, and only made sense if NCB actually bring your costs down.
Maybe this would help?
Unless you had an insurance policy had a clause that insisted the policyholder was then registered keeper, why swap? Incrementing the number of keepers could invalidate any savings made on insurance .Will impact number of owners I suppose, and only made sense if NCB actually bring your costs down.
Maybe this would help?
We used to do the same sort of thing with breakdown cover to get the new customer discount and cashback each year.
