Popped into Lidl for a snack, had 15 minutes wandering round the middle isle, 10 minutes queuing to pay, back to car, will not start, tried my jump pack, nope.
Rang a local mate, he turned up with a bigger jump pack, still no, went and got jump leads, no.
I rang Autoaid for a recovery.
Went back in to the store spoke to a lady on the till, she said wright registration number on my receipt and give it a manager who will enter it in the system.
Did that... Manager says no 'we can't do that's
Ended up in the car park just over 4 hours, it has a 90minute limit.
Once home I emailed Lidl customer services who said I should have dealt with it in store, I replied that I had tried to and told them what had been said and done, they replied 'regretfully we are unable to assist further with your request'
Now I am waiting for the PE letter and fine, anything I can do ???

You could go back and speak to the manager again, telling him that customer services say that it is up to him to deal with.

As soon as my car is working I will, cheers.

If Lidl aren’t playing ball, when you get the PCN send an appeal to PE with the paperwork from your call out with AutoAid.

In most cases I think you will find that the manager of the store/railway station/burger outlet want nothing to do with car parking, nothing at all. It is put out to companies like parking eye and APCOA for that reason.

The managers will be polite and that's about it, in some cases they just plain give the wrong information.

The correct answer is to follow the laid down appeals process with evidence that the car broke down.

I appealed a Parking Eye invoice when my wife fainted at a dentist. I had the NHS ambulance one-page form with all the times and details of their call-out. PE withdrew the invoice. Note: in my case the car was left overnight, as I had to drive and collect my wife, then get the bus in the next day to collect her car.

There is no theft involved, you have gone onto their land, and, assuming adequate signage, entered into a contract. Do you fancy people parking on your land or drive willy-nilly?

Parking eye are one of the more reasonable parking companies. If you receive a PCN, appeal with the recovery company paperwork and they should cancel it.

Hindsight is great, but next time cover your number plate when you leave. That way you won't trigger an overstay ticket.

OP - try not to stress. These people are not computer says no people. By all means try the manager again but once you get the charge through, there's a very efficient process for you to refute the charge.

You really shouldn't have a problem.

The usual response to such queries is, 1 don't panic and 2. politely plead with the store manager to explain circumstances to tte operator (presumably they have a say on not charging car plates of staff who park there?)

In the unlikely event that fails, your response to the parking operator could remind them of the national Private Parking Code of Practice. Though withdrawn in 2022 after only a few months of publication and now in limbo, it states breakdown as a reasonable excuse not to be charged a penalty and was sort of recognised by major enforcers. When I shredded a tyre and got a fine for pulling off at a service station for a few hours I cited it and got my penalty cancelled.

Keep your receipt. When you go to Parking Eye website to pay your fine (if you get one) there is an option to appeal, giving your reasons. Give your explanation on the appeal section and upload your receipt.

I did this when I overstayed by 15mins on one of there car parks and uploaded screenshots of my bank statement showing a transaction at the store I had made by bank card. They revoked the fine.

My last similar experience was more positive and I hadn’t even bought anything in store.

I was actually pulling away after dropping my son at the local post office, when the driveshaft let go. It was a busy junction and I used tbe car’s momentum to pull into a Wickes car park.

The femaie manager couldn’t have been more helpful and not only put my registration on the staff list, she helped move my car to a space that would be easier for the recovery vehicle to load it.

I waited three hours for recovery in the end and had no subsequent letters from the parking management Co.

So don’t think the doom & gloom merchants are always right.

Hmm, some people are very pro-Private Parking Companies. Wait for the post.

Having been on the wrong side of Lidl and their parking companies you need to check the following if they send an invoice:

(1) Did the invoice arrive within 14 days? It must do so under POFA 2012 for them to pursue you as the RK.
(2) Make your appeal, but don't identify yourself as the driver - "the driver returned to the car and it would not start..."
(3) If your appeal fails, the POPLA appeal is simply: "I am the RK of vehicle A123ABC, but I was not the driver. I am not require to name the driver and will not be doing so."
