New Speed or Traffic management cameras?

Friend recently told me that he thought he'd been flashed by an "infra red" new camera not far from his work. By chance I was not too far from there and saw the camera set up. (pic bit grainy as its a zoomed dashcam jobbie)



Its 2 cameras about 10-20ft up a pole. One looking at traffic the other looking away. The dashcam has picked up the flickering of Infra red, which you cant see with the naked eye. Nothing on the road like the markings you get with a gatso.

A couple weeks passed and he didn't receive anything. But they remain in situ and appear to be doing something. Any ideas?

They are a yellow casing.

Nothing at all. No signage indicting Average Speed. And these appear to be the only set between a pair of large roundabouts. I go through a set of Average Speed cameras regularly elsewhere. And they do look similar. Only those only ever face the direction of travel. (ie film the back of the cars) Never facing the driver.

Just had similar put up before traffic lights around ormskirk. Only seem to be overlooking the lights but not sure if speeding / red light or both.

Looks like a Vector camera. They can do average or spot speed detection but i THINK the spot and redlight cameras have two boxes in each direction, which would make these the average speed model.

If it has only just gone up it might not have been fully active when he went past it.

Mini update

Another pair have appeared about 500m down the road from this set. On the other side of the road though.

Gut is these are now average speed. Still no signage up anywhere. So presumably not active yet
