This seems pretty lenient?

If Drink Driving alone is usually a 12mth ban, it’s not really much harder an outcome for all the other stuff is it?

(It is Scotland so whilst not stated, actual reading “nearly twice over alcohol limit” could be possibly be “just over” in rUK, - we have lower limit but same penalty of a ban)

I don't know how it works in Scotland but he'd get a discount for pleading guilty. Is it 33%?

For info your limit is 22ug/L. Ours is 35ug/L on breath but we don't prosecute until 40ug/L and above.

Not sure in Scotland but in rest of UK the guilty plea credit is 1/3, but that's off the fine not necessarily the ban as well.

Surprised he wasn't charged with dangerous driving. Blue light, high speed police chase would easily put this beyond the custody threshold and, even with a guilt plea reduction, difficult to see anything other than custody for this.

He got more than just the ban:

"The sheriff said he had to consider a prison sentence, but stopped short of sending Alexander to jail because of his age and lack of previous convictions.

As well as the driving ban Alexander, from Kirkcaldy, was ordered to attend road traffic group work and told to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work."

He was charged with three offences:

- Dangerous driving
- Drink driving (42/22 in breath)
- Fail to stop for police

- 200 hours unpaid work

- Disqualification 16m

The reporting of the outcome isn’t entirely clear.

A third off for a guilty plea at the first opportunity. In England and Wales, ancillary orders do not attract credit, so the word ‘necessarily’ is otiose.

Immediate custody or suspended sentence.
