My van had the egr valve replaced 14 months ago. i have done 4 thousand miles since it was replaced, it has now now failed again. Garage just shrugged their shoulders and said it will cost more to do it now than it did14 months ago. Where do i stand regarding consumer rights ? had a look on the internet but cant find anything.

After 14 months it's time to cough up I'm afraid

Assuming it's a diesel and you've been doing low mileage trips then that's why it will have failed

It'll be all clogged up with dervste.

That's what I thought. I remember the good old days when you could get a decent sized van with a petrol engine.

I'd be investigating why the EGR has clogged up again .... Poor combustion somewhere along the line
Check all hoses for any leaks and the injectors for correct fuelling.

Some engines need injector tuning every service,
When was the valve clearances last done.

Most service centres will only warrant their repairs for 12 months ... but if the part is OE that may have a 24 month warranty

Stick some of these types in the tank and give a very good thrashing.

Parts warranty would only be 12 months, so will be down to you.

Have you a local expert who could map the EGR valve out?
