Neighbour has a shed of an estate parked outside my house. It's a public road with a "free for all" parking, so that's fine. It hasn't moved for 2-3 weeks, also fine. I don't get on with said neighbour. I just checked, MOT expired tail-end of September. It has definitely been moved/driven since then.

Report, or not? It's not moving at the moment but I thought if a car was parked on public road it needs an MOT, and 100% it has been driven since the MOT expired. It'd be nice to have the spot outside my house back hehe

There are valid reasons why the car could have moved. Technically, the car should have an MOT to be parked on a public road. It's a pretty low level crime and personally, I wouldn't report it unless there were other reasons why I wanted to ruin his Xmas.

Reporting for no MoT can be a lot of hassle.
Reporting for no tax is easy, done on the .gov website, but no MoT can only be done directly to your local police (or that’s the case here in Suffolk) and they’ve other tasks on their plate.

I'm not sure if a car MUST have an MoT if parked up. Legal advice probably says so, but if it expires whilst parked, it can still be legally driven to a booked MoT centre. scratchchin

It must.

A vehicle requires a valid MOT (if applicable) when being used on a road, and 'used' includes times when it's parked up.

Crime stoppers for no MOT for minimal hassle, lots of forces have an online section as well so it's not a hassle.

If you don't mind being reported to the authorities by a neighbour if you should ever do something wrong, carry on.

You can buy each other binoculars for Christmas.

Maybe leave it for a few days to see if the system hasn't updated yet. If still showing uninsured, report it! MOT can almost be excused as a 'forgot to do', Insurance is a different matter as you get plenty of reminders from your ins. company, so a conscious decision not to insure!

I have reported a neighbours car for no tax, mot and insurance to 101, Crimestoppers and DVLA numerous times. Nothing happens. Same with her drink driving too.

And?

It's still worth doing.

I did report via the police authority’s own website once, I live in Suffolk.

There was no ‘correct’ way to do it, I had to message them to ask which was the correct set of options for reporting no MoT. It wasn’t logical, and gave me no confidence that my time was well spent.

Pointless reporting them, I have a guy on our estate that owns 3x shed MX5's none of which are MOT/Tax or Insured, he also owns a MX5 chassis which is under a sheet and a Transit van without Tax/MOT or Insurance as well, all parked on public roads.

Reported to council,TVP and DVLA and nothing has been done about them.

It must have changed since you did it as this is the result of a 20 second Google search.

If you have a local Safer Neighbourhood Team try sending them an email. They are usually responsive to this sort of thing.

Here in NI there is a massive backlog of MOTs so people are waiting up to 8 weeks. It means everyone is parking and driving without MOTs at some point in the year, cops dont even ask as their anpr must be pinging 1 in 10 cars or so.

They were issuing MOT exemption certs when the maha lifts were broken but that's stopped now as they are back working, just have to clear the backlog.
