According to the article, he was caught twice, once doing 37 in a 30 and once doing 95 in a 70. Looks like he's received pretty much the maximum fine for each offence (£2500 for motorways and £1000 for other roads). Ouch!

More to that than has been reported. Both fixed penalties with one a possible speed awareness course if criteria was met.

I'm guessing that being a fool he's done something silly like not replying so things have escalated.

If he didn't accept the course or the fixed penalty he was almost certainly offered, his fine on conviction will be calculated as a percentage of his weekly income, up to the statutory maximum (£1000).

If all those YouTube videos are bringing in megabucks then even a fine for a minor offence will easily hit the maximum.

The article is lacking detail. Was the £3457 “fine”

a) fines only; or

b) fine x2, 40% surcharge x2, and prosecution costs?

£738 fine and £1560 fine?

If assumptions and maths correct then 73% and 62% of the maximum respectively.

I would have advised him to expect £666 and £1666. Total £2332.

Counts is the crown court. You mean charges.

There isn’t a “standard fine.”

37/30 mph is often a course. Otherwise a £100 fixed penalty with 3 points.
