I was driving up the A31 past Caffine and Machine and there are average speed cameras in every direction. On the northbound route I didn't see anything it indicate when I had been past the last one. Should there be?

Not really sure what you would expect to be there.

Are there ever any signs after you have been is a "speed monitoring area" to tell you, you have left?

Perhaps there could be a sign saying "crack on, you can speed again". wink

There's no requirement for signs of any sort too warn you about speed cameras, so they were already being generous by putting up a sign at the start of the average speed check. They probably thought that a sign that basically said "you can speed again now if you like" would be a bit too generous, and tbh I can see their point.

Yes, on motorways with roadworks you see the NSL sign often.

Only when coming out of a section of reduced speed limit that has average speed cameras.

There's no specific signage to say end of average speed measurement, though there is to indicate the end of a variable speed limit section.

The speed limit doesn't changes, so there's no signage needed.

But you can normally spot the enormous yellow poles and distinctive cameras. Having said that, some sections of average speed measuring have intermediate cameras (thus, 2 or more zones) too.

To what purpose would you put that information?

As per the first reply - crack on with speeding.

No. From Speed Cameras U.K.:

https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/average-speed-camer...

“Question: I have just received an NIP from an average speed camera site on the A249 for an alleged offence of travelling at 80mph in a 70mph limit. I have two questions; Although the beginning of the zone is marked the end is not - is this legal? The existence of the zone is not marked on the safety camera website - again is this legal?

Answer: The police are required to display road signs on approach to a fixed or mobile speed camera location – warning that speed cameras are in use.

No sign is required to say end of speed camera controlled zone.

Websites are optional and not always updated as you have found.”

The part in bold is not true, and it's about 20 years since it was even sort of true. Maybe the last sentence is the website that you found the quote on referring to itself.

It has never even been "...sort of true..." as far as "legal" is concerned. The rules issued by DfT only concerned safety camera partnerships and what conditions were required for them to reclaim expenses. If the partnerships didn't want to claim the expenses back then they could simply bin the rules.

I have an app that tells me when I've exited an average speed zone and the speed at which I drove through it. I amuse myself by trying to get it spot on the restricted speed.
