Reported Drink driving
Discussion
Not normally one to post topics.
I'm mainly looking for answers from police but anyone else with similar experiences might help.
Tonight driving my daughter to her night shift as I always do around 9:30 I pull out a sideroad behind a new range rover.
He hits the kerb ok I thought usual not paying attention on his phone etc but then it got more and more concerning with weaving and i thought that's it I'm calling this in.
during the call I go over with the 999 operator what direction, the reg/model, anyone else in the car etc during this as we head into town he nearly takes someone out head on.
Eventually he suddenly brakes and heads off down a side road I overshoot and can't follow as I'm on a one way so maybe he thought something was up or in his state realized he needed to go that direction so I gave my best description of where he was heading and the operator ended the call.
I'm annoyed I couldn't stay until a road traffic unit turned up although the operator gave no hint one was getting dispatched even after the alarming near head on.
My question to resident police or people that know more is will they be waiting at his home address like I've seen on traffic cops, does a marker get placed on anpr? or just the reg goes out there for OPs tonight and that's it?
I know it's slim but will I hear anything if he did get caught?

Depends on a number of things. I know it's slim but will I hear anything if he did get caught?
If someone is free to attend at the time. If so, I'd like tk think someone waited near the home address if its local/known.
My force puts intel in and then we look at targeting them with markers etc.
We also try and update the informant what happened, but its not a guarantee.
Usually, observations are passed to district patrols to be on the lookout for the rangey.
If traffic are in the area, then they will usually float over and patrol, possibly wait at the home address if it's close.
If distrtict have an initial pursuit officer on shift, and they are free, they will possibly be tasked to be on the lookout for the vehicle too. On our district normal response cops will only be passed observations and not tasked with trying to catch them as drink drivers like to try and make off (fail to stop) and then there are no real options to deal with them.
Usually though everyone is mad busy and observations are passed, intel will be added to the systems but unless they are seen driving the car and then breathalysed there is sometimes nothing that can be done sadly.

Did the same with someone who was weaving all over the road in front of me, at times ending up in the wrong lane and having to correct back over when an oncoming car flashed.
Phoned 101 and gave a commentary, and like you it didn't come to anything at the time (not enough Police on the road), but I also followed it up with a dashcam submission to Operation Snap, and ultimately received an email to say that the driver was being prosecuted for something - and that this would be the last I would hear on the matter.
I presume without dashcam evidence these things don't really go anywhere unless somehow an officer manages to intercept them?

Driving without due care maybe?Since obviously they couldn't get evidence of drink/drugs..
I keep saying i'll get a dashcam they're cheap enough now maybe its time to get on amazon.

Definitely bang on from just my footage though, their driving was shocking. Absolutely no regrets about reporting suspected drink drivers, would do the same again without hestitation.

I would report the driver like the OP did but I wouldn't expect or require updates.TX.
I've done what i can reasonably do to report the situation to the authorities. What happens next I leave in their hands.
It's ridiculous - you can't even get pissed up, go for a drive and nearly kill somebody these days without some bloody do-gooder dobbing you in. I'm with TX and the other bloke - if anybody ever gets a good look at somebody burgling my house, or smashing up my car, or attacking me with a hammer, or even better gets it on camera, then I'd want them to not provide that evidence to the police. Let them do their own job.
