Doing the trip in one day and would like to cruise at 130-150MPH without getting a ticket. Did this in 2024 with no issues but now Starmer is hugging the Euros I am not sure exactly where we stand.

Does anyone know definitively how ticketing works for UK Citizens - very happy to be snowed by paperwork and bin it if they are impotent to prosecute me!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is half term over yet?

Or perhaps one of your helicopters is better for that?

I believe France has now made it a criminal offence and can prosecute. I think other countries will now lock you up and or confiscate cars or on the spot fines.

I'd stick to certain sections of the autobahn for those speeds.

Nice, ignore the naysayers you’ll be fine post Brexit they can only detain you if they can catch you,

Great thread here also: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Yep, you’ll be fine.

Just ignore any tickets you get so feel free to give it the absolute beans when passing cameras. Police will rarely stop you either as they know they won’t get their money.

Make sure you go via Switzerland as well as they are really chilled with speeders and actively encourage it on occasion.

On the simple issue of ticketing, for what it’s worth, I set off a load of cameras in Austria and and also completely ignored the Belgian average speed zones between Liege and Ostende and received nothing in the post just in the last month. I’m surprised given the Austrians have all the info they need from my vignette account.

just as an fyi, the Austrians sometimes take up to 3 months to send you a ticket - at least they do when on a German plate. Not sure about UK

and to reply to the question - I really would not recommend doing those speeds on a consistent basis in Italy. They might not send you a ticket, but if they do stop you, it will be painful / they might not let you continue onwards, which then means trailering the car to the border.

Appreciate the heads up, but I've done the same thing half a dozen times in the last few years and not received a thing.

In 2019 my brother used by M5 to drive to Vienna and I ended up with a whole stack of them on the door mat a few months later. And yes he paid them all!

how come? happened to me in Austria - license taken on the spot and not allowed to continue onwards

Edit: Just to add some detail 190 in a 100 and stopped by police. They took the license and told me I am no longer allowed to drive in the country. My girlfriend had to drive the car and I had to go to court.

But yes, clearly total nonsense - would not want to have facts get in the way of internet opinions and Italy is not dissimilar to Austria btw as somebody who drives in both countries a lot

Well I am back now and thought I would share how things went.

1. Blissful to speed without worrying about tickets
2. Cruised at 220 km/h
3. Got 24.5 mpg from the Wraith which I thought quite good
4. Some flashes in Switzerland, France and Italy but no tickets yet
5. Stopped in France at a toll booth (don't know where they zapped me) and paid a 1k fine by credit card - Police were very good about it
6. 12 hours there and 11 hours back

All good!
