Seems the MET have used AI technology to scan various separate internal systems to detect abuse.

Presumably things like claiming to be in the office while logged intova home ip address. Entry system data matched against overtime claims etc.

"a week-long pilot, conducted without the knowledge of officers or staff, uncovered evidence of sexual harassment and the exploitation of HR systems for financial gain. As a result, 100 officers are under investigation for gross misconduct and 16 have received warning notices. In total, 598 cases relate to abuse of the IT shift system for personal or financial benefit.

About 42 senior officers, from chief inspector to chief superintendent, face losing their jobs after falsely claiming to be in the office while working from home in breach of Metropolitan Police guidelines. "

I'd occasionally work late, alone in the office at my station. I was aware that there were always those who saw some of my unit as having an easy number and leaving work early before the end of duty time.
Around clocking off time, if certain supervisors were on duty on response - to stop any such allegations, i'd send myself a short email from my terminal to prove i'd been in the office and when leaving the building to go home, i'd swipe back in before leaving - belt and braces - stopped any accusing fingers being pointed.

That won't help the crime rate. And if this is extrapolated across other organisations/companies expect a lot of people to become unemployed.

Surely it would have made sense to announce the technology and make it clear that the rules would be enforced going forwards.
It sounds as if officers may he binned for practices that have been seen as normal, albeit against the rules. That seems a waste of resource.

On the other hand how dishonest is OK for police officers? Especially those supposed to be the most competent and setting examples for others.

I see no issue. Lots of companies use these approaches to find anomalies to further investigate.

Edit to add - it’s not even new, I was helping run anomalous behaviour detection services over a decade ago.
