For only the 2nd time. I normally can't be arsed, I have submitted footage to operation Snap. Previous one was loads of cars driving down the hard shoulder at speed to avoid congestion.

I see a lot of crazy stuff as I do 40k miles a year but generally have better things to do with my time but not today.

Driving home on the M1 this evening, fairly quiet on a nice open 4 lane stretch, sat at the speed limit on my speedo so 68-69 mph.

(Company car with full telemetry tracker so 99% i sit at the speed limit)

I'm in lane 1 a good distance ahead I can see a car in lane 3 of an almost deserted section of motorway, but plenty of cars behind me.

I'm gaining on this car so they are perhaps at 65mph, I move over from lane 1 to lane 4 to go past them, as I do the car drifts part way into lane 2, I figure he is moving over but no he was just drifting so comes back to lane 3.

I get along side and what do I see, Mr dick face holding his phone in his right hand looking at the screen and talking, looked like a video call. I sound my horn but no reaction from the driver.

I then move back to lane 1, this st gibbon just stays in lane 3 with loads of other cars now passing and slowing behind him.

He stayed in that lane for as long as i could see him.

I have front and rear cams so got very clear footage

Question, would you have reported this ?

Or am I a snitch and should mind my own business.

Yes, I fking hate people using their phone while driving. Pretty much every car made in the last decade and many before have bluetooth. It's not fking rocket science.

This is so very true, I really dont understand it, some high end cars that will have a very nice Bluetooth setup for car play etc.

I would have reported the fool too, mobile phone and lane hogging - dangerous driving which can kill innocent people/kids.

I guess he could be hit with 3 offences.
Middle lane hogging, due care and attention for drifting in the lanes, and mobile phone use.

That could be a whole lot of points.

All committed at the same time so points only for one offence.

Have done 3 reports to Operation Snap, all 3 because it was blatantly dangerous behaviour.

No 1 was a driver in lane 2 of 3 on a deserted road, traveling at 50-60 with erratic lane discipline, speed modulation and with a phone in a holder on the dash watching TV.

No 2 was two cars racing down the hard shoulder while everyone else was stationary due to a police block in the distance due to debris in the carriageway from a shredded truck tyre. They both pulled back into lane 1 after they got spotted but after they had gone past at well over 30mph scattering all the crap about it got me annoyed enough to send the footage in.

No 3 was a bellend who was weaving across all 4 lanes on the M4 towards Heathrow, last second changes and despite the constant darts into gaps not really making any gains compared to us cruising along with the flow at around 40mph.

I'm not one to report everything I see, I'd not have a life otherwise, but blatant stuff is fair game. Why anyone drives like a dick these days is beyond me as there are cameras everywhere. The system is there to be used and while they don't have enough resources to go after every one it can help put a reg number on a list so that if anything else happens they can build up a picture.

For extreme complete div behaviour like that I agree, dob him in.
I carry a video camera on my push bike, it's amazing how much aggressive behaviour I get from motorists. It's usually close passes, sometimes overtakes, but often in contricted areas where I am established drivers who pile on through. Anyway, no matter for them as Kent Police don't do Op. Snap. A few drivers I would certainly have reported for dangerous driviing if Kent Police could be bothered with it.

Got an update, from the police but they wont update me again just that they are taking action.

"Your submission is subject to positive action. Positive action is one of the outcomes listed below. The Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) rules prevent us from updating submitters with the actual outcome."

That sounds like they'll be sending a letter. Disappointing if so.

People like that deserve a long hard ban.

Also "snitch" as a pejorative is used almost exclusively by playground bully types in my experience.

Positive action according to the letter can range from a warning letter all the way to nips for various offences.
Hopefully he gets hauled over the coals for it.

This is what they list for positive action..

Warning letter Letters are bespoke and will include a statement that formal proceedings were considered indicating the relevant road traffic legislation. Letters include still images from video submissions demonstrating the commission of the offence if possible. Detailed analysis of the incident is included with advice intended to educate the driver.

- A conditional offer of an educational course which includes a financial commitment from the driver.

- A conditional offer of a fixed penalty which would lead to endorsement of the drivers’ licence with penalty points and a fine.

- A summons for the driver to attend court. In the event of the case progressing to court, if you are required to attend to give evidence as a witness, a member of staff from our witness care unit will contact you

Maybe he is a PH driving God from the current Scotland thread who's strayed off course.

If so he is infallible, will be fine. So you better all leave him alone as laws don't apply.

Good for you.

They can put the result on the news or in the print and internet media, so I doubt that is the case.
