Unknown car parked in my Dad s garage!
Discussion
Not sure where to put this, but hoping I’ll get some decent advice, alongside the inevitable humorous answers. I’m hoping the attempt at humour raises a smile though.
My Dad lives in one of half a dozen townhouses each of which has a lock-up style garage in a courtyard slightly offset from the row of houses and actually behind a second similar row of houses. In total there are three blocks of 6 x townhouses, but only two sets of 6 x garages. Both sets of garages are behind the other rows, but each one is owned by the offset row for some weird reason. My Dad doesn’t use his at all and as far as anyone was aware it just sits there locked up empty. That is until today when I needed a bit of extra space to store some old random crud that was getting in the way at mine.
I thought the lock was rusted solid so cut it away, opened the door to find a knackered car sitting there! No idea whose it is, or where it’s come from and the neighbours are denying all knowledge of it. My gut tells me that it’s one of the owners of the middle block who has decided that he’s claiming the garage for himself.
So what to do? Will DVLA give me the owners name and address for this?
I’m thinking, get the name and dress give them 8 weeks to remove, which is more than reasonable, but tell them charges will apply after that. Let that build up and then claim the car via a money claim for outstanding storage charges and scrap it. Them have a big punch up with the guy who claims it’s nothing to do with him
For info the car is a D reg Peugeot 205. Sadly not a GTi, or I’d be claiming it immediately, one of the lesser spec, I’m guessing an XS by the looks of it so worth about 25p all in.

The XS is mean to be one of the better non-gti 205, so not entirely worthless.
If it s not totally rotten of course.
Are the plates still on it, when was it last taxed/tested/v5 issued?
I didn’t get the plate number as I was a bit wound up by it being there. I’ve got to go back tomorrow morning to fit the new lock, so will get it then. It doesn’t look rotten, but it’s clearly been stood a while, as the tyres are flat and very cracked where they’ve had the car’s weight crushing them while deflated. From the cursory glance I gave it, it looks fairly solid though. If it s not totally rotten of course.

Someone is going to claim it s their garage.
Does the land registry confirm it s in your Dad s ownership?
Yes, that s very clear on the deeds. Does the land registry confirm it s in your Dad s ownership?
I’d place a notice on the car that it will be removed
within 14 days. Place a sign in the garage informing the parking charge is £25 per day. After 15 days push the car out of the garage. You could borrow or rent some trolley wheel to pace under the tyres. Care must be taken not to damage it.

From memory a 1360cc twin choke. Great wee car in its day. If the shell isn’t totally rotten it has some value. If it s not totally rotten of course.
