I was thinking about this while going through an average speed check area today. I've had a Google about, but I end up being recommended golf clubs.

What would be the legal outcome if a car was timed as going too quickly through an average speed camera area, with a different driver at the start and end? Is that a legitimate reason to put "don't know" on the driver identity request?

distances between active cameras are generally quite short and they are often in locations where stopping is prohimited, so it would be difficult to legally change drivers and still exceed the maximum average speed.

All you need is a car with true duel controls, (as in like an aircraft not as in like a learner car) and you can both point at each other all day.

An equally left field and silly question, the Top Gear double decker cars as in TG UK vs Germany.

Which driver would get the points?

They'd most likely ignore the speeding and go for a "not in proper control of the vehicle" charge instead.

Having one person steering and the other doing the pedals is dangerous, though.

I'd class swapping drivers on the move as dangerous, the OP never mentioned dual controls. Whatever, it seems like a daft way to try and circumvent average speed cams.

Whilst we're on the subject.

Do the cameras in average speed check zones check your initial speed? For example if the camera is in a 50 zone but you enter it doing 70 then average 50 for the rest of the zone, do you get caught for the initial speeding at 70?

Nope - it's time between cameras.

EG 60 limit, 1 mile, take less than a minute, get a fine.

(a little bit less than that in reality due to ACPO guidelines)

Thought one of the legal bods would swiftly present some random clause about both drivers being charged since one of them must have been speeding frown

Well, if you can prove you have used reasonable diligence to check who was driving at the time then you can fulfil the S.172 requirement without naming a driver. If you can prove a different driver at the end of the average speed camera zone then it could work.

no in Germany they have other ways to avoid penalties

German police are appealing for help in finding a British driver making muppets out of them.
Speed cameras in the state of Bavaria have captured an Audi car breaking the speed limit several times with a Muppet Show character appearing to be at the wheel.

Errrr isn't that more indicative of the muppetry of German police and the Daily Bigot? Rhd Audi surely. They've blanked out the driver's face like the UK scameristas do with passenger faces, they are indeed bears of little brain.

It's a charge of speeding, so I'd guess whomever is in charge of pedals.

The angle of the rear view mirror indicates LHD.
