Wait, so as I read it, despite there being a pay freeze for the increments over the last 2-3 years, the government has just thought 'fk it' and scrapped the yearly rise?

What fking motivation is there going to be to do any work, when a new bobby on 19k a year, is going to be on 19k a year, every year until the end of the service?

I don't think you'll get much sympathy on here, as most private sector workers have had their salaries cut.

Performance related.... like the private sector.

You know, the ones whose tax has gone on undeserved pay increases to date while not getting a pay rise themselves.

can you compare the police to a private sector job?

how many of us go to work potentially facing danger from in front of our pc's?

Paying the Police based on performance? "Come 'ere son, you're nicked, I need a bonus this month!"

I doubt that they will never get another payrise again.

It's called austerity. We're all in it together. Most of my peers have had pay freezes since 2007.

Narrow view, deliberately ignoring the point.

You advocate the method of blanket pay rises regardless of performance then? What motivation is there to provide a proper service under those circumstances?

I don't see how that's relevant to this discussion.

None. Welcome to the public sector.

Oh brilliant, I strongly thought something like this might happen.

The trouble is that it becomes quite divisive, I am currently on payscale 7 due to the stopping of increments so was rather hoping to reach the top of the payscale on a (massively delayed date) of Jan 2015. I'm not sure of the details, but that doesn't look like that'll be the case now.

But people who joined at different dates (IE just before the freeze) will be remaining at top whack... For exactly the same job.

Grr

What's the point? Performance based pay?

And how do you measure the performance of the Police and pay by that benchmark then?

Because public sector jobs have had pay freezes, yet you can't compare the jobs.

People comparing fire men, police, prison officers to themselves in there nice little air conditioned pc operating job are mad.

Surely the people you/i call for when things are a bit too much for us too deal with should be paid more?

Except we're not though are we. The people at the top are not seeing their pay frozen are they. We're in it together as long as you're not already well paid, in which case expect your wages to keep on rising

Actually in most situations i'd advocate an annual increase to counter inflation. Without this wages actually go down in real terms.

In certain times there may be a need to stop cost of living increases but it shouldn't be the norm.

And now deliberately ignoring the question.

They're private companies, so buy some shares and complain at the AGM.

I believe cabinet ministers have had pay cuts recently.

That's not the point is it.

The fact is that 'we are not all in it together'.
