I went to tax my bike today and failed. I brought a completed V62 as I have mislaid the V5, I had the original MOT, insurance certificate, the fee(s), everything the nice man at the DVLA said I should bring but the post office system said NO. Error code 6005.

I rang the DVLA again and went through the forms with them and got them to check and double check the computer, no reason not to issue the tax disc said they.

Highly frustrating given I want to take my partner for a blast this weekend.

I am now faced with posting everything off to the DVLA Swansea as they have shut all of their local offices in order to give better service. At least a ten day wait for the disc.

I did try two post offices, same result. They don't have any discretion it seems. No V5 means the computer has to say yes and it didn't. I wasted my lunch time plus one hour trekking about and queuing. Is it time for a pint now?

He needs the number off the V5 to tax online - which he's not got.

Nah, I don't have the V5 as I mentioned. I think I left the V5 at my ex GF's place but I was quite prepared to pay the £25 V62 fee to avoid contacting her as she is all over the place with love and stuff.

I thank you for this. smile It is a consolation. Well as long as I get the cleaning, gardening, shopping and bottling up of the home brew done as well.

But tonight, yes , more than a few pints will be going in my tummy.

Just had this issue today trying to tax a car- Error code 6005 at the local PO. Phoned the very helpful(surprise!!) DVLA & they said it was because there's a mistake in the registered address. Got it sorted in the end over the phone & was able to tax the car.

That's because the computer does say no. If you don't have the required docs/form/info or there is a fault, how the hell do you expect a PO employee to tax you car?

Ours wouldn't tax a car from the 1st of the next month because I didn't have the current insurance certificate. I'd taken the new one, which started on the 1st, but it never occurred to me that I'd need the current one too.

I've had the opposite problem, they refused to tax as there was less than 2 weeks left on current insurance

If you do not have the V5C do you have the reminder the DVLA sent out? This can be used in lieu of the V5C when taxing on-line.

You don't need to take proof of insurance if you're taxing at the Port Office now.

Out of interest, what number have you found to contact them on? I've had some issues recently with taxing one of my cars, and couldn't find a number anywhere, just bloody automated systems and error messages.
