Chap i was chatting to today, does the same sort of job as i do, was bemoaning the fact that the drivers have been given a new contract that...
binds them to paying for any minor accident damage caused by them ( eg they lose their safe driving bonus until the item/damage is paid for) AND and this sticks in his craw
He is also liable for the excess clause, not sure if its for any damage or just where he was deemed at fault

Apart from the normal bar roon lawyer who says its illegal, i couldnt offer any yes/no on it.
Any learned people could give an unbiased and genuine opinion?

Not as bad as that, but we had to sign something to increase our contribution to our excess from £250 too £500 for a fault claim.

Had to sign it or no company car. Simple as that sadly.

So what action is the company going to take to help the employee mitigate the risk?

HSaWA covers a vehicle if being used in the course of employment.

Ours says that where we are clearly at fault the company 'reserves the right' to hold us liable for the excess of £500.
In practice the first time round it seems to be let go. Keep crashing and they'll bill you, and you get to go on a course.

an unbiased and genuine opinion? difficult at the best of times, impossible when you don't know whether their paying the excess requires them to be at fault. anyhow, it likely does require their fault and if so I don't understand your or your friends objection.

anyway, what's with the safe driving bonus?

It's perfectly ok for an employer to put that in the contract, and it's perfectly ok for the employee to refuse to sign it and find another job with more favourable Ts & Cs.

What is wrong with withholding a safe driving bonus after an accident.

Whatever they decide to do with it afterwards is their business
