Does anyone own a Blu Eye?? Are they any good?
Discussion
Hello everyone.
My first post was re-moved as i put a web link in (Doh )
I have been reading up on a product called Blu Eye. It is supposed to let you know when marked and or Unmarked emergency vehicles are nearby.
Obviously this could be extreamly useful.
My question is do you know anything about it?? Does it work???
It costs about a thousand pounds so isn't cheap, and really would appreciate hearing from someone that owns / uses one
Many thanks in advance

According to the website it says it's based on Tetra technology but doesn't go into detail. A grand is quite a lot but when the chinese make clones it could become popular. I wonder if it sends out requests a bit like pinging an ip address? If caught with the device the police would probably try and do you for perverting the course of justice just like they do with speed camera blockers.
You could probably make your own rudimentary cheap version by using a radio scanner set to these frequencies 390.0125-394.9875, 380.0125-384 (airwave UK frequencies according to wikipedia) and then monitoring the signal strength.

I suspect that your first post was removed because it may possibly have been translated as saying:
"Hello, I'm brand new here and have only just registered so that I can tell you about this wonderful product which of COURSE I have no connection with, it's just a coincidence that my very first post introduces a new product whichmy a company are trying to promote"
I may of course be wrongNaeem Mike, but let's see how long this one lasts….

As the topic has resurfaced, I'll repeat what I said on the original:
If this monitors Airwave, be aware that Police, Ambo, Fire, HATOs and ISUs (Incident Support Units - barrier repairs etc.) all use the same kit.
Sounds like an awful lot of false alarms to me!
It would also be interesting to hear if Police would regard this as a scanner on Police frequencies, as that may open a whole new tin of tuna.

I've got two Blu Eyes, they are ocular devices (other colours are also available but one gets what one is given when they are being built to order
).
I've also got two aural devices.
My Blu Eyes are pretty good on their own at letting me know if there are any marked or unmarked police vehicles nearby, and the aural devices augment them on occasion - all at no cost apart from a little bit of maintenance now and again

.Surely this falls into the same situation as speed gun detectors ie they aren't illegal so long as you don't use to avoid being caught speeding. The signal it detects is freely broadcast and if only measuring signal strength you aren't really intercepting communications but might fall foul of RIPA.
Interesting one, would be interested in an official view of such a device.
