I was on the M9/M80 tonight and a camera van was on the bridge.
I looked at my Sat Nav, cos my speedo is faulty at the minute, and it said I was doing 76.

3 points? 6 points?

Summary: 76 on Sat Nav in a 70 by camera van on M9 in Scotland.

What's the likely punishment?

If it was 76 on GPS your speedo would have been reading more like 73 I think!

Is GPS not really accurate though so 76 would be 76?

I thought that there was a +/-10% to allow for speedometer inaccuracy?

Prepared to hear that that is a myth, of course.

76 wouldn't even qualify for a speed awareness course.

How completely irresponsible of you.

I drive at 19mph on back streets, always give way, never get angry and always to the letter of the law. Anything else and you might as well be drowning puppies and whipping children.

Disgusting.

Expect the death penalty for you and your immediate family. Anything less is an insult to anyone thats ever lost their lives on the road.

or...

i would imagine you will hear nothing, Get your speedo fixed smile

It is - speedos should only read over, not under.

76 GPS could be 76 on a speedo or it could be 80. Never 73 though.

Yes it is in my experience, speedo usually over reads, my speedo at 30 is 27/28 on sat nav. In the case of the OP an actual 76 on gps would be around 80 on speedo (if it wasn't knackered). I think you will be very unlucky to get a fine for doing 76 in a 70, but realise Scotland are a bit tougher than south of the border.

Nothing unless your vehicle is regulated to a maximum speed of 60mph on the motorway.

OP,

It's 79mph and above - "that's their cut off point" so you're fine.

Is there any evidence to the contrary?

I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you with a haggis.

Kill me with a haggis. How would...

In fact, I don't want to know.

No such term in Scotland except in Glasgow. Summary procedure can be tried either in a District Court by a Justice of the Peace* or in a Sheriff Court by the Sheriff - http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2004/03/19...

 * A Stipendiary in Glasgow.
