Car tax and Direct Debt

Hey,

With my job I work away at sea for 2months periods then return home on land for 2months on land.

When away my cars are put into storage unit and declared Sorn. This used to mean sending tax disk back etc to get refund but now with new rules this should be a lot easier.

Is there anything stopping me from taking out 12months tax with Direct debt every time I come home then cancelling and declare the card Sorn each time I go away.

The 12months tax should mean cheaper monthly payments

Surely it wont be cheaper as you will lose a months tax everytime you cancel, do you do the same with your insurance

As long as I cancel on last day of the month they should not charge me the next month? I have my insurance running the whole year

Here is the breakdown, So I would pay 43.75 each month. Yes it would be more expensive paying that each month over the year. But my cars ain't always going to be on the road hence why i cancel each time i go away

Nothing whatsoever. Last month was so nice that we retaxed one of the summer cars (which'd run out at the end of Sept) for a month then SORNed at the end. No problem. We didn't do it DD, though - the refund cheque came through in less than a week.
